1996 Pre 2200 WT need info

I need some help. I have a good friend looking to become a new member of the tige family. He's looking at a 1996 Pre 2200 WT with 265 hr. Does anyone has any good info on what they like / dislike about the boat and if there are problems to look out for. Pic's are always helpful

What up G! Good to see your still kickin.

That model is basically the same as mine. Good old boats.

If all the mechanicals check out and it runs good, I would move on to what to watch for.

The fuel tank may or may not have a sump in it. You can pull the cover off the filler/ sender section and get the serial number off it and call the manufacturer to find out. It should be an FMT (Florida Marine Tanks) tank. The only other way to check is to pull it out. It's actually pretty easy. If it doesn't have a sump, it could be really easy to run it out of gas it you are surfing the port side. Being a '96, this could be. Mine had the sump but, I replaced it anyways. Check my ballast thread for that whole gig.

If it needs a steering cable, pulling the tank makes it way easier.

If it has the stock prop on it, I would put a new one on.

Check the floors for any soft spots or sections that may have come loose.

Check the taps system for leaks, particularly at the rams. Bennett still produces parts for them so if one is leaking, its pretty easy to fix.

The bow rides really low. It's something that needs to be payed attention to while driving at slow speeds.

Check the blower hoses. There are two fresh air hoses and one evacuation hose. The way the evacuation hose runs behind the tank is kinda lame but, they still work. Mine works way better now after the mods. The two fresh air hoses run from the windshield vents straight down to the floor in their respective compartments. Make sure there are no holes in them. If they are the original, they should be replaced anyways. They get dry and brittle.

The factory speedos aren't very accurate. Not a big deal. I just use a gps app on my phone.

You know about the old towers.

So, its just little things that may need attention. Other than those, they are great all around boats. You're not gonna find better of that vintage or price. That's assuming it is a good price. They generally are.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Thanks for the info. Is you ski pylon in the middle of the boat and is it removable? Also to you have a tow point off the back of your boat?

Is the one he's looking at a V-drive? I was assuming it was a D-Drive but, the ski pylon question is making me question that.

I sold Tige's for five years during this period. The 96 21 is the first boat over 20' that Tige built. It was designed by the same man who designed the Buick Riviera, so it has extremely long and smooth lines, much less angular than the 20's. Be REALLY careful on wake crossings with the bow, as the nose on this boat is very low to the water. Decent wakeboarding boat, but not so great on the surfing end. I believe half of these were made in Merced, while the others made in the new factory in Abilene, TX. I think it came with a merc magnum, TAPS, and some pretty cool seating options, including skybox seating. Not sure tho.. it's been a while since ive seen one.
