Orange Spots on Vinyl!

Ahhh, so this weekend we took the boat out camping. We have a rule that everyone has to sit on towels with sunscreen on but somehow we didn't notice the guy spraying tanning oil and now we have orange spots on our vinyl that won't come off. Obviously that was the last time he is invited back on the boat!

Any suggestions of what we can use to remove? It was just straight oil with no bronzer so not sure why it turned orange but it is all over the upholstery now.

So far we have tried our usual boat bling vinyl sauce

Try some dawn dish soap and a nylon scrub brush
Also exquisite vinyl cleaner with a brush is good
Some say the magic eraser is good but i am hesitant on sanding your vinyl so I have never tried it.

Sorry to hear about the vinyl. Second only to cheap nail polish, spray sunblock & tanning oil is the arch enemy of marine vinyl. I would suggest cleaning the area thoroughly as you've probably already done and let it sit outside uncovered for a couple sunny days. Unfortunately the oils in the spray leech deep into the vinyl and by design, Vinyl Sauce was developed to lift dirt, grease, and oil off the surface with minimal penetration to eliminate the possibilty of damaging delicate materials.

If soaps are used in combination with a scrub brush be sure to protect the area afterward with a conditioner and/or UV protectant.

I have used the Magic eraser with good success in my last boat. I would babes seat soap it afterwards and then a little 303.

My vinyl looked like new when I sold the BU! hey that rhymed!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to try them out tomorrow and hope something works. Is it bad that I would rather have people get sunburned than allow any type of sunscreen on the boat again?!?

Simple Green, Magic Eraser, or just let it sit out in the warm sun for a while.

The vinyl 'brochure' that came with my boat has a very small list of "NON-recommended products"

Simple Green is at the top of that list...

Just as long as everyone knows that magic eraser is a fine sanding block and I've been told it can scrub away the shinny protectant layer of vinyl surface so stains might be easier to soak into the vinyl next time. Definitely use a protectant to keep the vinyl safe after using the magic eraser. Here is a quick little article about what it really is:

Absolutely right! His tan cost him a summer of awesome trips on our boat. Some people will just never understand how lucky they are to get an invite.
