Vinegar and water will remove water spot BUT it will also remove any wax in which you have on your boat (and smells awful)

Finesseit II is first off a polish ONLY (no protectant). It's old technology and is TOTALLY over priced.

You should not ever have to hose your boat down! We RARELY ever use water in detailing a boat. Contact John with Hula Boat Care and ask him for some Spray Detailer. Simply spray this on when you get out of the water and wipe off with microfiber towels.

I have a buddy who just bought a 19' center console that has some light oxidation on the gel coat. He took the boat to a detailer who, IMO, did a horrible job for the amount of money he charged. Detailing is a hobby of mine for my own vehicles and boats, and I was thinking about tackling his boat to test my skills. I have not progressed to a rotary buffer yet, do you think I could get the same results with my orbital buffer and a wool pad? It is a Porter Cable orbital with speed selection from 1 - 6, I have both the 4" and 6" backers for pads.
Yes that is an orbital buffer with a wool pad you see. In order to remove oxidation essentially all you're doing is heating up the gel coat with friction and "rocks" in the product to cut away the top oxidation layer. To answer your question about a DA polisher (the one you own), that will NOT work. The DA is designed to make figure 8's in which is meant not to be aggressive enough to cut or heat up a surface. There are some factors the go into play whether or not the cleaner wax will cut the oxidation on your friends boat. None the less I guarantee it will for sure improve it!

Now I have to try Hula stuff...Arrggh!!! It seems to be a hobby of mine to try everything under the sun. But I am trying to stop this behavior.

I have landed on this recipe:
I Flitz the boat once or twice a year.
Follow up with Boat BLing Hot Sauce after every trip.
Clean the interior with a brush and Boat Bling vinyl sauce or Exquisite or Malco leather and plastic cleaner (I think the brush is more important that the cleaner itself). Top it off with 303 protectant regularly.
X2 good thing I kept the wave runners to practice on

They only list an emergency contact number on their website. I did send them a message on their contact us page. I find most companies never respond to the 'contact us' link. This will be a measure of their customer service. I also go with Boat Bling right now because the service is top notch. I will be sure to report back what I think of the product if they are willing to send me samples. If you have a phone number, I would be happy to call them.
              Be excellent to one another.

I ordered some Hula stuff a couple of weeks ago, and their customer service (via e-mail) was great.

I really like the product too. The spray detailer is awesome, but I'll be darned if I haven't already used 1/3 of a bottle wiping the boat down after three days on the lake. I think I need a 55gallon drum of the stuff.

To be fair I should let y'all know that I worked at 3M for 5 years and Meguiar's for 7 years.

Finesse It is a good product but is it designed for automotive finishes... it works decently on gel coats. My Hang Ten Cleaner Wax has a simialr sized abrasive in it as Finesse It and will remove oxidation in a similar fashion.

The main difference is that Hang Ten contains a carnauba wax and will leave a protective film where Finesse It will not.

                    Hope this helps.

                        Thanks for the write up.
If you like the spray detailer I also offer it in Gallon refills
for $29.50. The packaging is nothing fancy but it has the same juice in it.

By the way as it contains a good dose of polymers, the more you use it the more polymer protection it will leave on the surface so you should be able to use less juice after a few times of wiping down...

My stuff is on the way. Just when I was about to complain about greater than 24 hour response time, I decided to check my junk mail folder. Apparently, Hotmail is not a fan of Hula products...the response was in the junk mail. It is a sickness that I have stuff that works OK, that keeps getting pushed back by what I think is the very best.

Is there some technique I'm missing? I've gone over the boat with the polymer sealant, but my boat has some black above the waterline that seems to bake on spots, so I need to saturate those to get them wiped off. It's not so much the content of the spray but the moisture that's needed in the hot sun on black gel IME.

Or am I doing it wrong? Can I water down/dilute the surf away?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Chances are you have a high mineral content in the water and getting bad water spots. You can try to dilute Surf Away with 1/3 water but you will not get good Palmer protection from it so be sure you have a good coat of wax on the boat first.

The other thing to try is to wipe down the boat as soon as it comes out of the water.

Let me know if these ideas work for you.
