bungee dock lines and bumpers

I use a 4' Straight line bungee from my ski pole to the dock cleat. The SL bungees have nice built in plastic clips that also allow you to easily attach to ring cleats or if the cleats are too large.
I then use normal lines if I plan on leaving the boat more than a few minutes. Or if there is current/wind.
I use these bumpers as my boat is old school with an uber low freeboard.

I have a direct drive boat with motor in the middle of the boat and the ski pylon (pole) in front of the motor (I don't have a tower). My ski pole is pretty close to the direct middle of the boat, so it holes pretty well by itself.
I'm not sure what boat you have, but if it has a tower you may want a shorter line, and wrap it around the tower and down to the cleat. Each dock is different, that is why I also always carry 4 normal dock lines too.
Bungee lines are meant for long term docking or in high current or windy situations, so make sure you get normal lines also.

I had a dock mate line from overtons, but after being on a friends boat and using the straight line (with the little plastic clip). I bought a SL and my dockmate has not been used in a year.
A lot of marinas, ski courses, bars, neighbors docks have different cleats, different size cleats, or none at all. I always had to get a little creative to attach the dockmate to some of the odd ball cleats (rings, large cleats where the loop wouldn't fit around, ski courses or neighbors that just have a hole in the dock).
The Dockmate is nice, but the SL clip makes temp docking much easier.
