    tower bolt

Last weekend I was taking down my tower to put in the garage and the bolt started to come out and then wouldn't budge. I tried to go back in and out without any success. I eventually used a box-end wrench to get more leverage. Finally the bolt broke and I was able to put the tower down. The insert screwed out easily then with the remaining bolt stuck in it. I tried to find a replacement without success. I did a search and found chpthril had done the research for me. McMasters Carr has the exact handle with bolt and was easily found with his information. I am having trouble locating the insert however. I don't know if they don't have that size anymore or I just couldn't find it. Here are some pics.

It looks like a time-sert. Did you try you local auto parts store?

I will try that today. I also have my local Tige dealer looking for it. Will post with updates when available.

Ok, it took me a few days to finely come up with the right key words to search out the thread from 5/2010

The insert is 5/8 x 18 NFT. Taps are available, but you would probably need to special order on unless you have a specialty tool and machine works type store local.

If you go to Mcmaster-Carr and search for 5580k28 it will give you the two inch bolt with handle. As far as I can tell there is not a 1.75 inch bolt available so you will have to cut it down. I have not ordered this yet but according to chpthril these are the correct specs.
