Medallion Controller Cut Out of RZ2 by Thief...Suggestions for New Location?

All...we have been hit twice in 2-years. We had our amps stolen last year. We have since moved them and the thief could not find them this time so he|she apparently tried to cut out the Medallion controller underneath the dash. Some questions for the board...

1) Has anyone had success in relocating the Medallion controller to another location on the boat (i.e. behind the seats)?

2) Has anyone had success with a boat alarm concept?

3) Are the RZ2s targeted because of the ease of access to the amps? Causing people to hit the boats over and over again?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I doubt that Tiges or RZ2s are any better or worse than most tow boats for access to valuable equipment - I think it is similar to most boats. I can only guess that thieves look for clues such as high end tower speakers (not sure if you have any - just making a point) to indicate that a boat may have other equipment such as amps that could be stolen and sold for money. However - the controller seems like a silly target - how on earth would they find a buyer for something so specialized?

Regarding an alarm system - try sending a PM to user da.bell - I think I remember him mentioning a couple years ago that he had installed a motion sensor or proximity alarm for the interior of his boat.

Yikes. That sucks. Where is your boat stored?

High voltage electric razor wiring around the boat might stop them.

Ha. I wish on the electric wiring. We are on Lake Austin so there simply aren't that many options.

There have been a number of threads on wakeworld about boat alarms. It seems that they do help. But they are plagued with the same thing that car alarms have. Sometimes they go off for no reason. Often the boat is in a remote area and it has gone off so many times that no one listens to it anyway. If I were you, I would install one, even though it is not perfect.

The motion / shock sensor did not work very well for my boat when on a lift. It was a little better on the trailer but not worth the money. My local stereo shop puts a switch on the gas shock for under the glove compartment.

The alarm installer will need to disable the motion sensor or have the ability to temporarily disable that sensor when the boat is in the water for any length of time.

Seems like a 12 volt hidden cam with motion sensing and SD recording would help out.
