I'll agree with the above, when I tow with my 4Runner I never do more than 65. It was hard to keep it slow on the 80mph speed limit in west TX on I-10.

Im sure it CAN do it. Just not a good idea to actually do it.

I think the 3500 towing capacity is if you have an inline 4 cyl. If you have a V-6, it should be 5000 or 6500.
This link looks pretty informative about towing with a taco.

Yes you can do it. I use to do it with a slightly lighter boat and with the first generation V6 Taco. The second generation with the 4.0L should do it even better.

Not sure how many hills you have, but hills are a challenge going up and down.

i've towed my 22v with my old 2007 tacoma with the 4.0 a couple times. It handled it okay (mine was a doublecab longbed). The biggest thing i didn't like was the braking. My trailer brakes work very well and it was still marginal. Now that i look back on it i wouldn't do it again. If i would have needed to stop fast the boat would have no problem pushing that truck.

Oh GOD! Here we go again.

The discussion is about towing a boat, not a house.

Diesel is over rated, and not worth it unless your doing heavy hauling for work.

Other than that, you just love to hear the clanging sound for some reason.

Diesel people that don't NEED a diesel must be compensating for something??

We towed our 21 foot Wakesetter with an 05 Tacoma 2wd. With towing package and airbags in the rear. The engine is perfectly capable, the brakes arent as up to par. Itll do the job but you really need to be patient. On the one big grade we go over to the lake we go 45-55 and dont make the motor scream. Honestly, it does the job quite well and on most grades does just fine. 4wd wouldve been preferable but if the tires spun we just put people in the bed to weigh down the rear. I have to say though we now have a half ton that does the job much better and is more convenient.

I learned my lesson the hard and scary way when I was younger and dumber. Tow ratings have a meaning and pay attention to both the tow weight limit and the GVCR (combined weight). Being able to go up a steep grade is great but if you cannot safely stop or handle swaying conditions all the acceleration in the world isn't going to help when the unanticipated occurs. 10 miles or 140 miles does not matter if a panic stop occurs and your vehicle cannot handle the weight.
