    Lakes In Fort Worth

Hey people from the DFW area ... what is the best lake for wakeboarding around the Fort Worth area?

What is the best lake for socializing as well?

    Thanks!

The best water near fort worth is on the Brazos River "TIN TOP RD" in Weatherford, and thats about 45-60 mins southwest of FTW. My fav lake is Lake Worth for water sports. Good party lakes are Eagle Mt, or Lewisville. I hope this helps. What part od FTW are you in?

I too live close to Benbrook. Tin Top is good but can get tight. I go to Granbury most often and like Grapevine but it can be a haul for me with traffic.

Tin Top is good till noon, then its time to beach it and hang out. I like Granbury, but have only been once. Grapenvine is close to me and is a nice lake but sucks for boarding most of the time. Go to Lake Worth, and if you see a Tige with a crazy wrap on it it me, and come say hi!

I know there are a few storage places just outside of Benbrook in Whiskey Flats/Cresson area. I'm not a lot of help there since I keep mine at the house.

Yall do realize that Tin Top and Granbury are on the same river, right. We were married on Lake Granbury in 1985 in the area near the dam. It's a 32 mile run up to Tin Top, but we've done it 100's of times. The area around the old bridge/pipeline pilings was getting very shallow from silt coming from upper river during heavy rains. Haven't been there in years, but I'd guess it still is. We've moved on to Possum Kingdom now and love it. It's only 70 miles or so from Ft Worth, and the traffic is much less than going east. Lots of places to store the boat there as well. Also a lot of weekend cabins for rent. PM me it u want more info on PK.

Gcsuper. For that matter PK is on the same river as well With the water conditions the last few years I have NOT felt comfortable taking my boat up the river from Granbury to Tin Top. Maybe it's just me but it seems like an easy way to tear a boat up. I agree PK is an awesome lake and one that is well worth the trip.

Agreed. I've been a Barzos River Rat since the early eighties. Once we found it, I was hooked. PK is a little different as it doesn't have an upper river that's navigable like Whitney and GB. We had a place just north of Ham's Creek on Whitney for about 10 yrs or so, but the Corps made us move out since we were in the flood area. One thing all the Brazoa rivers have in common is the salty water. After a day on the water your boat looks like someone sprayed it with milk. It could get worse too, expecially at PK if the new lake named Cedar Ridge Resivoir I think, gets built someday as it will cut off the clear fork and leave us with the salt fork. But for now, we love it.

I agree ... PK is ultimately the place I would love to be ... BUT I want to get a lot of use out of my boat and it won't be just a weekend thing ... my line of work allows afternoons and weekdays here and there along with weekends ... I wanna be able to just get off of work and hit the lake for a couple of hours or so ... driving to PK would take too long and have to be a full days trip.

If you're not comfortable/familiar with lakes/rivers ... where is a good place to find out where the low spots are in the lakes or rivers?

I'm kinda old school. My Dad left me maps of all the local lakes. The kind you don't see any more, but u can usually get good maps at any marina or store and depending on the governing body, probably online. All lakes have their danger zones. Lake Worth is very shallow overall, and there are lots of stumps. Eagle Mtn is probably the safest lake as long as you stay in the main lake and don't go too far north. I learned to ski on Eagle Mtn. My dad would be pulling me sking and when he would see the sand bass schooling, he would just stop the boat and catch a few. Then he would holler back at me, ready ? Off we go again.

Yeah I need "safest" lakes ... regarding sand bars out in the middle of the lake ... I know from just observing boats out at texoma ... it isn't cool to be cruising around at 30 mph out in the middle of the lake thinking everything is all good and come to a screeching halt!
