    Any PCM dealers on here?

I need a quote on PCM's shaft seal kit, part number RK024228, with cheap shipping to 99212. Anyone on here work at a PCM shop that can order parts? PCM doesn't sell direct and the only remaining local PCM dealer gave me a story about how they've already done their big Spring stocking order, won't be ordering for a good long while, etc. etc.

    Thanks!

    Could you contact PCM directly?

As mentioned, PCM doesn't sell direct (to customers). You have to go through a dealer, or someone like SkiDim.com (I checked, they don't carry it).

I think that Andrew (username SPBFan) can order PCM parts. Check with him: info (at) automarinecare.com

I would think those guys at SkiDIM would be able to get you PCM parts. PCM's plant is only a few miles from the SkiDIM office?

I didn't consider that they might do a "special order". I'll call and ask. Thanks!

EDIT: Done! Called SkiDim, talked to Richard there. They are placing a PCM order tomorrow and they drive their own truck over to pick up their stuff, so he just added my kit to that. They'll have it tomorrow and ship it out Priority Mail (cheaper and faster than UPS for small stuff). He still had my credit card data, still had my address, the whole thing couldn't have been faster and easier. I liked those guys before and REALLY like them now! Awesome customer service!

Thanks for the tip on asking them to do a special. Most high volume places aren't interested in anything they don't normally stock. Great idea!

Glad it worked out, those guys are the real deal.
I was restoring an old Stars & Stripes and needed all new hoses, service parts and several items that were showing their age. I told him the year of my boat and he rattled off everything I needed from memory. Hose length and diameters, part numbers etc. 20 minutes later my order was sitting at the front desk for pick up.

                  Update:

Sadly, this little project isn't going too well. SkiDim did ship me the RK024228 kit - I have it right here next to me - but it turns out the kit is useless. Despite the label on the kit reading "Shaft Seal Water Suppply Kit" (misspelling is theirs), multiple people at PCM have now confirmed that it cannot be used for that purpose. The two brass fittings inside are incompatible with each other.

The story now is that PCM no longer outfits their engines in advance for boat manufacturers using wet shaft seals. It is up to the boat manufacturer to modify things as necessary to obtain the water supply for the shaft seal.

A few calls to local plumbing and hose shops has revealed that the best they can do is cobble together a bunch of fittings and components to T off a 3/8ths hose from a one inch hose. I'll do that if I have to, but it sure seems like someone out there has probably solved this problem with a bit more grace.

So... has anyone seen a non-Tige boat with a water takeoff for a shaft seal? How did they T into the engine waterline? What sort of fittings did they use?

Any help will be appreciated... thanks!

does your PCM have the "beercan" tranny cooler before the raw water pump in the raw water intake line? Mine has a drain, which is kinda silly because you can just pull the hose and really drain it. So what if you pull that drain plug and take it down to your local hydraulics shop for a fitting?

That's on the intake side of the raw water pump. There is a vacuum there, not pressure. The effect would be to draw water UP through the shaft seal. The takeoff point has to be downstream of the water pump(s).

I don't have a problem finding a place to locate the water takeoff. PCM illustrates two right in the manual. But finding an appropriate fitting....

Why can't you just remove one of the brass block plugs (like where you'd hook up a heater) and take that plug to your local hydraulics parts house? I bet they could come up with a barbed reducer that would work.

I'm still trying hard to "do it the way PCM says". Their recommended place to take the water is from one of the cooling hoses on the CAT exhaust system. I agree it's tempting to take it right out of a threaded port - in fact, there's one on the raw water pump that looks really handy - but for now I'm presuming that the manufacturer knows best and am trying to do it their way.

                            Here's the latest.

I put out several inquiries on this topic but never heard back anything definitive. So I called PSS, the shaft seal makers, figuring I can't be the first one to have this question. Turns out this problem has come up often enough that they put together a kit to solve it. $45 for everything including the fittings and six feet of hose. The guy said "This is a nice, custom fitting" which sounds a lot better than the kludged-together "solution" my local plumbing shops were proposing.

Since they're here in my home state, UPS can have it to me overnight at the ground price. Once I pull the boat out of storage, I'll measure the hose and order the proper size. I'll post again when it's here.

Please call me I have the fix for this. Ben there done that. I will discuss it with you. You need to get ride of the wet seal. Real easy to do. The wet seal actually is a potential to pump a lot of water into the bilge of your boat. I will discuss with you. I am a dealer for all the PSS seals and gone down this road a lot in the last two years with local boat owners Malibu, TIGE, Supra, and others. PSS also has a Kit available to fix this that you can get.
