    RZ4 to Z3

Anyone made the switch from the RZ4 to Z3. I am considering replacing my 2008 RZ4. Primary use is surfing. I currently have 900lbs hard ballast. Thanks.

Ragboy was using a 2012 RZ4 for a little while, and now has his Z3. And he knows just a little bit about surfing with them both.

From all we've read on the forum: RZ4 was terribly difficult to weight for surfing if you wanted a killer wave

Z3 with stock ballast appears to be fantastic!

      (I just ordered one)

Both great boats. The best thing about the RZ4 is the interior room. If you have the 2008 RZ4, the new one with the cooler up front and stuff is REALLY nice.

The Z3 surf wake, though, is much better. More push, easier to set, better shape and more adjustable. The RZ4 wake was more "touchy". When we got the wake the way we liked it, it would sometimes get outta shape, like an air pocket formed under the boat or something and we would have to start and stop again.

The Z3 interior is as roomy in the cockpit, and maybe not quite in the bow, but very close, the Z3 bow is pretty big for a pointy boat. IMHO, the new center walkthrough and loss of ski pylon in the Z3 are huge improvements. The only negative is that you don't have that flip over cushion in the corner to step on when coming in if you have your shoes or sandals on, but I guess that is gone on all of the boats, isn't it?

The Z3 is the best boat I have ever been in, to date, hands down.

Oh yeah, it has a much higher freeboard, requires less list so you don't have to leave it over much to surf. I think that's it.

That settles it, time to break out the wallet.

Its a big decision, and a lot of money no doubt. Budget in a flight down/up here and we will give you a ride.

Also, I am hearing Z3 costing between $79K and $108K. Is that the case?

I think I pretty much cover everything in here:

As far as the chair, I don't know.

As far as the price, that sounds about right, but I am not completely sure on the range.

Thank you. I think my next step is to call Tige and schedule a visit. Have a nice day.

lol. That isn't til july, but sure. My favorite temp is 76, and that is usually some time in June. 78 at end of june, or july, usually.

i have a 2009 RZ 4 and i found you should set front 50% ballast full and rear 100% full with speed at around 19 and tap at 4-5. It is wonderful.
But for Z3 it is more nice on boat design and interior
