as i walked up to my boat yesterday, i heard a strange hissing noise coming from the gas cap. i ignored it, and started up the engine and it didn't catch the first time, which had not happened before. i tried again and the engine started as normal. as i put it in reverse, the engine died. i was able to start it again, but then it died as if it was out of gas, and would not start anymore. i had the boat out on the water for 12 hours the day before, with no problems at all and filled up the gas tank when i docked it.
i checked everything i knew to check, fluids, impeller, fuel pump plugs, wires, etc.. after giving up i just figured i'd try topping off the gas. as soon as i did (with less than half a gallon), the engine started and ran perfectly for the rest of the day. has anyone seen anything like this before? how could i avoid it in the future?
