    The upgrades have begun!

I had a little bit of time today to start working on some of the upgrades I've had planned for my new RZR.

I started by getting the windshield tinted. I did 35% with a regular dyed Llumar film and at least with how it looks in the shop, I'm second guessing myself a little. I had originally planned on doing Formula One Comfort or Pinnacle in 50%, possibly 35%. I wanted it to be subtle and still match the clean white and grey/silver theme I have going on.

Since those 2 films are partially metallic and all metallic I thought they might look a little better, but I cheaped out. I'll see how it looks outside and on the water. Maybe If I don't like it, I'll change it in the off season.

I suckered one of my oldest and best friends, Ainslie Fukuda (Car Audio legend, Mark Fukuda's youngest brother) into coming and helping me this afternoon. Ainslie has a pretty strong car audio resume himself although he's been out of that industry for many years. He worked at Mark's shop and on Mark's Blazer since he was 12 if I remember correctly.

Here's a quick pic of everything that's going in the boat.

Ainslie grabbed the air saw first so he got stuck with all the cutting. We did the JL 7.7" coax in the bow.

Then we started installing the 7.7" components in the cabin. The coax would have been a little easier but I really like the way the components look. I did all the components in white but I ordered replacement titanium grills for all of them. I'm really happy with how they turned out.

We added an additional pair in the rear of the cabin. I have 1 more pair to install by the captain's chair but decided to hold off for now until I figure out what I'm going to do with the sub.

There will definitely be a sub! I just haven't figured out what I want to do. I have a 12W7 but I'm pretty sure I won't use it. I'm leaning towards either 1 or possibly 2 10W3's in a ported enclosure for now. Ultimately I think I'll do a new 12W6V3 in a ported enclosure once they become available.

There's essentially no subwoofer now. The free air 10" does nothing more than just flutter around while the boat is underway.

Sweet install! My buddy has those 7.7's in his boat and they absolutely rock! I like the white and titanium mix, that looks bad azz! Mark Fukuda, haven't heard that name for a long time! That's pretty cool!

Has anyone tried firing a sub towards the outside of the boat under the captain's helm? I'm not sure how well the boat would do in regards to rattles. It seems like a smaller sub, like a 10" might benefit by having a surface to load the driver against as opposed to firing it at the captain's legs in an open space.

It would have to be built in such a way that the bass gets vented (funneled) towards the captain's legs and sealed towards that direction so that the bass doesn't escape elsewhere.

I may play around with this tomorrow depending on how far I get wiring up the amps and batteries.

That thing is gonna be crazy.

I always liked the idea of firing the sub into the walkway, off the other side. Not sure if its too much distance to be effective or not. I also like the idea of a firing the sub straight down at the floor. I'm not a stereo guy so, take my suggestions with a grain of salt. I run a sealed box for gods sakes.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Yes. Side-loading is a great options on boats that have a false/partial wall under the helm. Resignation off the hull with the ability to vent is very effective. Heres ET's 2011 Malibu VLX

That looks great Mike! How did the boat hold up to the sub pounding on the side of the hull in terms of rattles? Did you notice more or less rattles compared to firing it out?

We had one rattle/vibration under the helm that a rolled up piece of foam took care of. That install is not even a year old yet and the boat has a new owner, so I can only say that to my knowledge, all is still ok.

Now, I do not think a side-loaded does much more vibrating then a direct-radiating sub under the helm does. But, there is a YT video on WW that shows the side of a boat majorly flexing due to a side loaded sub that is absolutely hammering. The hull movement was actually kinda scary
