    '99 21V Riders Edition Questions

Hello Tige experts, I am looking for some help -

I have been looking at buying my first ski/wakeboard boat for some time now and came across what seems to be a great deal. I am looking at a 1999 21v Riders Edition with 322 hours - the interior has one small tear in a seam, which has been taken off the purchase price.

It does not come with a trailer, which is what I want, as I live on a lake and plan to pay for in/out trailering at the beginning and end of the season and storage (I do the same with my cruiser). I plan to keep the boat on a lift for the season.

My main concern is that there are some minor "stress cracks" on the bottom front of the boat. The salesman is telling me that this is somewhat common with fiberglass boats after years of use (my cruiser apparently has something similar from what I am told, as this same company cleans and stores my cruiser). It seems to be 100% cosmetic, almost like very subtle spider webbing. Is this going to be a deal breaker?

They are asking 19k, and I have them down to 16.5k - does this seem like a fair price for this boat? From what I have been reading it seems to be very competitive. Any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

For what is possible with that boat, it could be a smoking deal. Is there an add you can post up that we can check out. It would help us determine what you might need to watch for of be aware of although, the only real negative about the old Tiges was the factory tower. Stress cracks are almost always cosmetic. Tiges were built better and stronger than any other tow boat at that time. They are one of the best buys around. That is a perfect amount of hours if they are consistent hours, meaning they weren't put on in four or five seasons and then it sat for five years. That would be bad. Boats, like cars, need to be driven.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Thanks for getting back to me, here is a link to the listing:

There is not a while lot there, but I have spoken quite a bit with the salesman about the boat. The prop is in good shape, the snap cover is still in good condition, there have been no major repairs that are known, and the boat has been used year after year as a weekend ski boat.

I will be looking mainly to wakeboard and surf, will this boat be decent at both with some added ballast? Overall worth the price around 16k?

Nice boat. Looks like a custom ordered unit. Riders editions generally had the cheaper interior. That one appears to have the Limited edition interior. Major bonus. It also has a Monster tower on it. While not the prettiest tower on the planet, they are strong and that is the most important thing.

It says 270hp. Is it a carberated motor? That would rare and a little odd. It should be a TBI.

It would be a great little surf boat with some ballast. The wakeboard wakes will have some wash at the top but, no big deal.

I would take it for a test drive and have it checked out by a local dealer.

The website has some bogus information - there really is the 350 in this boat I believe. The interior is the main thing that needs work, but the shop that has the boat says it would be around 1k to get it all done locally. Not too bad in my eyes.

Has anyone ever wired speakers up to a collapsible tower like this one? I would like to add a couple cans at some point. I think we are going to move forward on the boat, we are working to get a lift included with the price.

Nice boat, I also have a 99 21v riders. You will like this boat a lot. If it's in good shape with the low hours that are on it, it will last you a long time. I wakeboard and surf behind mine and it performs great.

The monster tower is pretty easy to wire tower speakers on. Just got to drill some holes and fish the wire. I can walk you through it if you have any questions, just PM me.

How many interior pieces need be fixed? I just finished redoing most of my interior myself, with the exception of a few pieces that needed to be sewn. I spent about $110 for the simple peace and $235 for the most complicated peace. So if that gives you an idea of price.

Ya, I would imagine it would have the Merc 350Mag Ski in it. Extremely common motor in these old Tiges. It's much harder to find one with a different motor. I've got nearly 500 hrs on mine and it hads always run tip top.

Overall everything is in pretty good condition - about 5 or 6 pieces of the seats are starting to pull apart at the seams, but there is no foam showing or anything significant. Do you run any ballast, and if so, how much for surfing vs. wakeboarding? I was looking at a couple 400lb fat sacks that look like they would fit on either side of the motor in the storage lockers...

I will shoot you a PM, I am very interested in what you did with your system.

Made a deal on the boat today! Ended up getting it for 16k flat - seemed to be a good deal to me. Now to start working on the audio system...

Decent deal. I got my 98 2200 v for $17k 3 yrs ago. Best upgrades are perfect pass and an acme prop if it has the stainless one. Your engine will be a MPI fuel Injected. Works great at sea level but is a dog at elevation.

I think the saying around here is...it didn't happen if there are no pics.

                              Or something similar to that.
