2010 Z1 Motor Size Too Small?

I am a long time boater but new to inboards. Looking at a 2010 Z1and the owner says it is 275 HP. Is that possible as Tige says smallest motor is 300HP? Would a 275 HP motor be too small for this boat. What does the extra HP give you in a inboard. Top speed doesn't really seem to be the consideration. Thx!

It would depend on your location (elevation), what you plan to do with the boat (which water sports), and how much weight you plan to have in the boat (both ballast and peeps)?

If you are at sea level with not much weight should be fine.

My first boat (non-Tige) had the base motor and I regretted it every time I moved the throttle.

I agree with both Skippa and Majestic, but if you do get it you will want a boat with a larger engine in it in about two months.

I recommend the 5.7L 343hp motor. Coming on plane will be faster and fuel consumption is probably better with the 5.7L motor.

the PCM ProSport 5.0L MPI 275hp was an option in 2010

It is strange that an owner would down grade from stock motor unless cost was the issue and the savings for a 5.0 vs the 5.7
              made the initial sale.

I test drove the older 20V with the 300 Hp MP motor VS the 340HP 5.7 motor and if any time deep water slalom skiing is done with 275hp a 200lb skier is goint to have to work to get up. Yhr torque of the bigger motor is evident when pulling slalom skiers.

I would see if you can find one with the 5.7L PCM. You may have to spend more even on used boats but the reponse of the 5.7L is a lot better than the 5.0L with a loaded boat. With 1 person in the boat it will feel responsive with the 5.0L as you put more weight in boat the torque of the 5.7L will handle the load IMO:

thanks to the forum for all the feedback....bottom line I can see why this boat hasn't sold with the smaller motor...I think we will have to go at least with the 340 hp

I have an 09 Z1 with the 343 and it is great with full factory ballast, them some more and 6-7 people.

If you don't care about top speed, and the price is right, you could always regear it (prop with diferent pitch). But you may also have issues for resale later down the road.
