    Wanting to adopt a Tige - '03 2100v or '05 22v?

I've been searching for a new to me v-drive for a few months now. I've looked hard at every manufacturer out there and the Tiges fit and finish pull it ahead of the Nautiques, in my opinion. Everything else appears to be a step down from there. I've got three small children and this will be our first inboard after owning several stern drives. Ride quality in chop, high freeboards and build quaulity are at the top of my criteria. With that...I've basically narrowed my search to Tige.

Now the hard decision...I've tested a beautiful '05 22V in incredible condition. I've also been looking at a very well maintained '02 2100V with no mechanical or cosmetic needs. Both boats are powered by a Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI and are set up with similar options. The pricing difference in the boats is about $8k.

What's the major differences between the hulls? Does the '02 have a convex hull, and if not, would I be missing out? Does the pricing difference justify a jump to the '05 vs. the '02? Anything I should know or look for when comparing the boats side by side?

Thanks for your help. We're looking forward to bringing home a Tige very soon!

What are the hours on the two? Do you have pics? Are you leaning towards either for overall likes?

Both boats have about the same hours (400 +/-). Both owners were meticulous. I'm leaning towards the '05 simply because I've driven it and because there's a mental aspect of 'newer MUST be better'. The latter part is what I need help with. I know the hulls changed around '03. I'd like to know what the major changes were and is there a significant advantage to the newer boat?

Both have the convex v hull. The 05 is 1 foot longer.Does the 05 have a trailer with it? Others on here will know for sure, but some of the older Tiges had a metcraft tower that owners had complained about.Other than that i've heard nothing but good things.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

Both have a trailer. The '02 has a little nicer Dorsey trailer vs. a refitted Magnum on the '05.

I'm a little partial to the 02 hull. The 05 was more focused on wakeboarding. You can see the lack of spray pockets and the full length negative chine on the 05. Tige was catching a lot of crap for the wash at the top of the wake on the older hull so the new one was designed to fix that. The 02, by accident, is a really nice surf hull. I think its prettier as well.

The tower on the 02 is not the death trap Metcrap we all hate. However, I think that one was also a Metcraft, just an updated design. The 05 tower was built in house by Tige and I believe that was the first iteration of it, known as the E tower.

The 02 is a Limited. That means its got the nice interior. Definite plus. The 05 appears to be a Riders Edition but, ant Tige can be ordered with any option so...

I think both boats would serve you well, its kinda of up to you. If it were me, I would probably buy the 02 and put 8k of new tower,FAE, ballast and stereo in it. You would have yourself a really nice surf machine.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Buy the way, nice work on the research. When done correctly, there is only one outcome.

Where are you located? There are a few great deals on 22vs in my area and a nice 24v for sale on here for an amazing price. Bigger is always better

What he said...the 05 will be a little better wakeboarding wake, and the 02 will be a better surf maker. Although I think both are terrific for either sport, so you are really splitting hairs here. The 05 will have a more friendly version of perfect pass compared to the 02. But if it does not have it at all, you can add it for just over $1,000.

I don't see why the 02 will have a better surf wave?

I think the general feeling is that it can make a bigger wave with less weight. The pockets essentially make the rear of the boat more narrow...so my thinking is that it is sort of along the lines of the concept that a bigger boat usually requires more weight than a smaller boat.

I sold mine before I even heard of the concept of surfing behind it, but I often noticed when cruising 10-12 MPH that the wave could be huge.

Surfdad has a 23V in the same year and made a whale of a surf machine out of it.

I'm not sure about exact specifics between the two boats, but I'm pretty sure the newer boats that were designed specifically for wakeboarding were designed with a higher freeboard and a deeper hull which helps cut thru the chop better. Please correct me if I'm wrong there, and not sure exactly when they changed. The bow of the 05 doesn't dip down as much as the 02 which will help keep the nose out of the water better.

Does one have more upgrades than the other? Like perfect pass, inboard ballast, or a heater. It looks like the 05 bimini will be 100X's easier to use than the 02 (keeping little kids out of the sun is a plus). A nicer trailer is a plus, most boat owners overlook that. Does the 05 have wakeboard racks?...keeping the boards out of the way is necessary, though the 02 racks look pretty hard to use.

Do you have a place to store a 22 foot boat? (actually looking at the specs there is only a 6" difference) http://www.tigeowners.com/model_specs.php

I am partial to the older style boats, I'm not a fan of all the bling and glits that the newer boats have. And like skiing so I'd go for the 02 and save 8K.

My buddies 22v throws a sick sick wave. Surfdads didn't look even close to as good as it. I have never surfed behind a 21v but from the pictures the 22v will do a better job. It might take a little more weight though. The 21v doesn't have chimes and maybe that's why it takes less weight?

                            .
The bimini on the 02 requires a PhD in trigonometry to get set up. I had to call my boat dealer first time I was out and after 15 minutes of phone time, I finally got it figured out. It looks cool, and is functional, and once you have it figured out, it can be done pretty quickly, so not a big problem there.

Maybe you can post a how-to sticky on the bimini for me. THe seller of the '02 doesn't know how to put it up either.

It doesn't sound like there's a dramatic difference between the two boat designs afterall. If that's the case, I'll take the older '02 and save my pennies for a future upgrade.
