When we were working with him last year he said it was the last he would do for five years. It may still be worth a shot though.

I bought the shore spike last year and I am looking to get the box anchor this year. I have a navy anchor that doesn't work well. It came with my boat, I might need a heavier one. My brother has fluke anchor that only seems to work at times. My parents bought a box anchor for their waverunner for xmas so they haven't tried it. They were using the bag that you fill with rocks.

Many on here suggest the box anchor and claim that it does indeed hold in many cases. I talked to the owner of slide anchor last year, he mentioned that if you get a bigger one you can tie several boats off of it.
Thanks for the link to Slideanchor Skippa! I'm assuming the regular box anchor is galvanized right? Any reason to get the stainless steel version other than it looks cool and I can probably keep it forever?

Actually I just read that the options are either SS or Hot Dipped Galvanized. That's a pretty big premium for the Large SS. It increases from $179 to $409. I'm sure that's pretty much all material cost though. They probably make more money on the galvanized one.

We bought an XYZ anchor. Loved it because it worked GREAT with high current and wave conditions. Someone didn't tie it correctly to the cleat last year now it's in Douglas Lake (just north of US40 in the first big cove on the north side in 35 feet of water). Will problably replace with the box anchor as suggested.

I knew I should have ordered one then, but money was tight at the time though.

I ordered the small galvanized box anchor, stainless shore spike, some anchor line and one of each size anchor buddy from Slide Anchor. It all shows to arrive tomorrow.

When you buy a box anchor, be sure to order a Danik hook. Those things are awesome to quickly adjust your anchor line length.

I like my large box anchor but it is really heavy and a pain to move around. I doubt I need as much holding power as it has and sometimes wish I went smaller. But I am sure if I had the small, I would be wanting more holding power.

You would be amazed how much the small box anchor will hold. I was out on the ILL river last year when the water level was at flood stage and the corp had all the locks down, so the current was moving pretty fast. With my small box anchor I was able to hold my boat and three other tied off to me and we did not move at all. It wasn't until we added a forth boat when the anchor broke loose.

Good point Duncan, don't forget to get a Danik hook. Makes it really nice to be able to let out more rode on your line any time you want and to disconnect it off your bow hook when your ready to pull anchor.
