NO! On my 1500 I had the HTS plow, which broke on me 2x...not heavy duty enough.

I plow my own lot and my drive...and some neighbors if I am bored! So getting the diesel was a good choice to tow with and then to plow with...it saves my business money in the long run...my dec 08 plow bill was 7k! We had alot of snow days that went for many hours so I was paying for 3-4 times per day to have the lot cleared....

      Now I need my RZ2!

I tow my Supra on tandem axle boatmate trailer and all is fine. On long trips we use the Tahoe with more passenger comfort and room for two labs. The Jeep does not have the room for 690 mile trip. Tahoe is comfortable on long trips.

With boat loaded with gear and luggage it is at least 5500 lbs. and tow long distances using our 5.3L Tahoe with towing package with no issues.

We also tow a MasterCraft Maristar 230 sport with it and no problems pulling it on steep upgrades etc.

For short hauls my Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.7 l and tow package handles both boats fine.
As chpthrl indicated you should Maguire the trailer is level and tires are properly inflated.

Vehicle who Duromax will currently handle the load.

Question is do you need a truck or SUV. Towing as much motor you can get for gas powered vehicles.

The difference between a diesel truck and a tahoe is that a diesel truck is meant to tow all of the time even at max capacity. I had the heavy duty tow package in my Avalanche and it was rated for 6,500lbs as I recall. I would tow my boat with it 200 - 400 miles a week depending on how many times we went out and the transmission let go at 70k. The Chevy dealer said that it was never designed to do what I was doing with it, towing at or near capacity frequently with hills at altitude. Pick your vehicles wisely. Recreational towing is fine for most vehicles, just make sure you know its limits.

The Tahoe I have and the Jeep I have have never towed at any altitude thus no tranny or other issues from towing on the Jeep with 105K miles on it with a good percentge towing and some playing in the mud and snow.

I forget the ratings on both vehicles but they both had higher ratings than the weight we were towing. IL and IN are fairly flat so the only hills we had to handle were in NorthWest Arkansas and SouthWest Missouri. On Tahoe tranny temp could be monitored and when hittting these molehills the temp was well below max range.

The only warning the Cevy deasler gave us is do not let the vehicle go into 4 cylinder mode. With the weight we towed we had to put the vehicle in tow mode which would not let it go into overdrive. Same with Jeep.

I agree the tow vehicle has to match not only the weight but also be strong enought to deal with where you tow.

Make sure you stay on top of your transmission fluid changes too, especially with those long trips.

Excellent point. Back when I was looking for a new truck, I was thrilled that the relationship between Daimler and Chrysler resulted in my truck having a Daimler MEDIUM duty transmission in my LIGHT duty truck. The NV5600 trannies used in prior years were replaced in 2006 by the Daimler G65, a tried-and-true transmission rated for way more weight, HP, and towing than it will ever see in my vehicle.

This means I will never stress it anywhere close to its limits and it should last basically forever. Combine that with a Cummins 5.9L and I'm hoping I have a drivetrain that will last many hundreds of thousands of miles.

Yeah, that Cummins is a strong engine! No worries on those!

                    Mine pulls like a train..

Also, we were just looking at 5th wheel toy haulers tonite...It is nice to have the flexibility to be able to pull that as well as the Tige, just like the OP will if he decides to get something like that too.

I'm reminded of another thread here, where an upcoming new Tige buyer is wondering if he should upgrade to the EX343 engine. In all my years of operating powered equipment, I've never once said "I wish this thing had a smaller engine". True for boats, trucks, cars....
