It only takes a 1/2 ton pickup to pull a ski boat. For some, it only takes a big SUV. Nobody needs a giant diesel with an allison transmission unless you pulling for work. Diesels are over rated, over priced, and will almost always outlast the truck (did mine). So for comparison reaons...we need to keep the Tundra class in perspective with the other light duty trucks.

Definitly old school. Things have surely changed. Dom must be at least in his 70's to get a way this??

But Gilgamesh tried to cheat death so he went out boat shopping. Here along his journey he met Utnapishtim (much older version for Dom). The God's were angry at mankind for building cheap wakeboard boats so Utnapishtim told Gilgamesh to buy the best wakeboat he could find that was affordable. So Gilgamsh went out and compared all the boat brands. Here, Gilgamesh finds Moomba who has cut conners on hull thickness. This made Gilgamesh anrgy so he asks the Moomba Gods why. Moomba says to Gilgamesh, "cuz yo too stoopid to ask questions, home boy". Story to be continued after yard leaves are racked and the lawn is cut, and the car is washed and vacuumed.......

Spoken like someone that has never towed their boat up to Big Bear, up through the Eisenhower tunnel, up and down the Grapevine or in the high temp/density altitudes experienced out west...

As I stated, I have no doubt the Tundra is a fine truck and would consider it if I was towing over flat land and at Sea Level.

Taking my boat to Lake Powell with my truck is one of the things that keeps me in limbo about downgrading to the F150 Ecoboost. Towing up Eisenhower at 75mph wasn't even an issue. A lot of cars/trucks struggle to even get to 75 up that hill, my Avalanche would have to drop down a gear to do it and if you lost momentum, it would take quite awhile to get back up to speed. People that have never driven up there have no idea, the further up you go, the less power you are making and yet the hill doesn't flatten out.

I haven't had the chance to see what the boost will do with the hills with load yet, hopefully soon

It does not downshift on any hill between Casper and Billings though, and my 2010 150 will drop two gears going up some of them.

I've also never seen a truck hold speed on cruise control as well as the ecoboost, where my 2010 and all previous trucks will drop about 5 mph before CC kicks in the boost holds it right at set speed at all times, going up or down.

My 4runner pulled my RZ2 up and down grapevine at 60mph no problems, speed limit is 55 there. And the boat was loaded with china and other stuff the wife didn't want the movers to break. My point and Nobody's point is that most people don't NEED a diesel, if you need one you figure it out pretty quick.

Tundra with 4.6L and the RZ4 loaded to the max (guessing extra 2000lbs of stuff) all through the TN mountains. No Diesel, No Allison, No Problems. Diesels are for pulling 12K to 24K loads, otherwise its just a status thing.

Cast all the aspersions you want. Until you have driven and towed what someone else has in the conditions they do, you can call using a diesel a status symbol if you want. Makes no diff to me.

I have towed in in mountains of TN. They are hardly the rockies.

With that, I will bow out.

I will however wait to her the OP's impressions towing with his new truck.

                              Cheers
