You don't need much of truck to pull the flat lands at sea level.
If you are referring to pulling in your mountains, they are really just hills.
Yes they did the big Diesel tow test in Colorado.Chevy and Ford were the only trucks capable of towing the 24000 plus loads.Dodge wasn't rated to tow that weight. Those grades were 7% or higher for 12 miles at 12000 feet.Separates the Mountain Lions from the Rams[unicorns].Just the FACTS!
GM has the most truck fires, dodge has the most transmission failures, and Ford has the most Diesel engine problems....IN THE USA, it gets worse if you live abraod. Just stating facts.
Make that Dodge HAD the most trans failures. That was cured in 2003 with the 48 RFE.
Starting with the 6.7L in 2007 they went to a 6 speed Aisin automatic that was a copy of the allison and it has also been bullet proof. That added with the integrated turbo/exhaust brake has finally made someone else have as nice a trans as the Duramax...

Hard to believe what trucks cost these days, and it's all headaches and repairs after 5 years anyways....unless you bought a tundra (of course).
When my super duty was in the shop I had to use my 1/2 ton extended cab chevy to pull the boat. It would not get up the ramp when it was time to go. It was dark and not a soul in sight. It took all my ballast weight and the some and a lot of skilled driving to finally get it up. Thought it would never happen. Again, never had a problem with my dually Ford.

That hill is the one I referred to a few pages back that I love driving with the Allison on. It's even more fun going past everyone UP the hill! While I do love my Chevy with the Duramax, I'm still leaning to that F150 Ecoboost for everyday driving.
For the record, GM owns the 1/2 ton segment. 449k (Chevy/GMC) to Ford's 358k and that's not including the Avalanche or Caddy EXT. Ford kills them on the Heavy Duty segment though.
For me, who only tows boats, I would never buy a truck without 4wd, diesel or otherwise, dually or not. Slippery ramps are the Achilles heel of RWD pickups, see:
