I actually don't own a tube and never thought about using it from the transom Just planning for the future. What kind of pylon is it? I need to measure mine, the one on ebay might work great.
I would like to know about this too. Mine is in so tight and doesn't look like it has ever been moved. I took the bolts out and am still having a hard time removing it. My buddies Malibu has one that with just a twist comes up and down. Maybe the same one would fit on a tige?
I have the same issue! The aluminum pylon & the steel support are dissimilar metals, so they tend to corrode together, wich makes it almost imposible to remove! I am going to remove the whole unit and try to remove the pylon from the steel using heat.
one removed, I think you can lube with anti sieze, so the pylon can be raised & lowered as needed by loosening the two bolts! I'll keep you posted!
Mine can't be raised or lowered. It has a lip on the top. I bought the ebay one for 65. Lets hope it fits!
Are you going to just mount it through the existing hole then?
I would be seriously worried about the extra torque placed on it since when it is extended, it would place more stress on the fiberglass when a tube is pulled from the taller pylon. Let us know for sure how it works.
I pulled the whole pylon asy. out of the boat, Heated it with a torch, beat the tar out of it. I did bend the top a little, but it came lose after heating it red hot!
Cleaned & polished pylon with emery cloth, then sprayed on some clear coat. Now the pylon slides up & down as designed.
