    Engine Size in 24' Tige

I've been seriously shopping over the winter and have found some interesting deals on great looking 24' V's and Ve's. Most have the 340hp Marine Power motor. Question is: will I be disappointed with that much power. I know that different props make a big difference but much of my boating will be done at around 6000' of altitude. My last ride was a MC 23' boat with a 400hp 6.0 and it was just adequate at that elevation. That being said, my experience is that Tige's are a little more power efficient than some other boats.

Should I hold out for the larger engine in a 24' or just stick to shopping for the 22' models? We wakeboard and surf both if that influences the discussion.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions.

I wish I could help about the 6000' elevation question. I do know that the reason most of them have that option is because it is usually adequate.

I can at least vouch for myself at 3600' it was awesome.

What boating do you do? I think surfing can always be remedied by repropping, no matter the weight, but barefooting or wakeboarding with a heavily sacked out boat might be an issue if there is not adequate power.
    Be excellent to one another.

We are the tige dealership in Denver, Colorado, Wakeboard and Waterski Specialty. We are at 5280 feet and I know that the 24V and VEs we sold all do well with the MP 340HP. We have even done RZ4's in the past with the 340 HP motor and they have done fine.

I do have an AWESOME 2006 24V that is comimg in on trade that is in PERFECT shape. Fully Loaded whit huge stereo and BRAND new motor was put in at the dealership this last summer!

Call or email me any time to chat about the used boats we have!

Agree on the surfing issue. It doesn't matter too much how long it takes to get the wave rolling, although it burns a lot of gas. Getting on plane within a reasonable time for wakeboarding is always the issue and what challenged the MC.

I remember once having 12 people in the boat, all stock ballast full plus a couple of 400's in the rear lockers at the 6k elevation lake. It literally took almost a full minute to get up to speed and I had almost given up assuming it wasn't going to happen. This was with a "high altitude" prop. The wake was amazing at that point but the rider was already tired from plowing. This wouldn't be a typical situation of course.

Tall, think we exchanged a few times on the MC forum. Looks like you get around! I was recommended to this forum by my Tige owning buddy who consistently spent about 60% of what I did on gas in the EXACT same conditions on Powell trips. I had an x-30 and his was a 22v. This even included unballasted trips with equal numbers of people in each boat.

          Thanks for the info Nick.

The local Tige dealer orders nothing but the big engine for new RZ2's and RZ4's. That tells me what a dealer would recommend but not entirely why he would make that recommendation if you know what I mean. That being said I think its worth it to have sufficient hp even if it costs a lot more.

It may also be why there are a lot more 340hp 24' boats in the market. Are owners deciding the upgrade is necessary? For example, what is your 24' that is coming in on trade being traded for? I'll try to give you a call on that.

          Thanks.

I've been in a couple of 24' Tige's in the Denver area and they seem to do just fine with the 340hp engine. If you are going to load it up with 3,000 lbs of ballast for wakeboarding, I would try and find one with the bigger engine but if you are just surfing, I think you will be happy with the 340hp.

WWS is a great dealership and I guarantee that they have sold more boats at altitude than any other Tige dealer in the US, they know their stuff!

I test drove both sizes of engines last year at the Tige factory.

I ended up going with the 409 but didn't notice a lack of power with the smaller engine.

My home lake is approx. 4000' and my old 22i with a 350 Merc (315hp) faired just fine. I think you'll be fine with the 340.
