    Gel Coat Friendly material?

Looking at making something... any suggestiongs on material that wont burn gel coat or can rest on it.. but if sees some stress or wind that wont mar or mark it? I know kinda vague but just humor me.

I know sur-last and seamark both make products.. but anyone know of any others?

What are you trying to make? Without knowing what you are trying to accomplish, its pretty tough to suggest a product.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

looking to make a cover of sorts that is more like a "bra" concept for the front end only to be used while towing. just something that slips on the front end and can be strapped to the trailer so that no rocks can fly up and nick my gel. last boat was black on the hull and even with rock tamers I got a few dings.

starting the concept \ patern work this weekend with some material I have but in the end want soemthing more like our covers are made out of... with the batting on the areas that come into contact with the boat.

1/8th inch (i.e. thinner than normal) double faced (fabric both sides) neoprene comes to mind. The fabric won't mar the gelcoat, and the neoprene will provide some cushion to rocks that fly up. Rocks can still ding the gelcoat through normal fabric, so you need something that will dissipate the energy without transferring it to the underlying surface. The cushioning will also help the neoprene itself from getting torn up by rocks so fast, making your "bra" last longer.

well when its complete.. I dont see much really touching the boat per say.. just the front on the pickle forks and over the sides a bit... will be strapped down and secured.

I am thinking on a V hull will be a much easier application.. just need to figure out some small details around the winch area and it will be good to go.

Good idea. Neopreen sounds like a good idea for the padded effect. It is easy to glue seams together and velcro strips could easiely be glued on for attach point and around the front eye. Would love to see pics when you are done.

I would just put mud flaps on my tow rig. Maybe with some type of quick connect so you could remove them easily if u didn't want them on your truck all the time.

I actually have mud flaps on in that fashion already LOL. rock tammers and ones mounted on my truck. Still does not solve the whole issue. But i am pretty sure this solution will work, just a few more things to figure out.

My Bro-in-law has a hull/rock protector system on his Lund. That boat is Aluminum but his Black pant does not show any wear-n-tear from trailering it around with it on for the last 5 years. I believe he bought it from Cabela's or some other mail order place. Then made some modifications to keep it off the boat. It is a heavy fabric that has Velcro straps that connect to his SS rails in the bow and to his trailer.
