    Clarion Questions

I am working on ordering some new stuff for my new toy and am either considering a new head unit or making an adapter for the CD changer input on mine. I have the Clarion XMD1 that does not have an Auxilary input for my phone (Pandora) or mp3 player.

My question is if I do decide to purchase a new Head unit will I have to replace the two wired remotes at the helm and at the transom or will the newer clarion units like the cmd6 or 7 be compatable with these or will they also need replacing?

Just purchased 2 sets of new Wet Sounds XS-650 to replace the crappy old Clarion CM1622 with blown tweaters. Will probably add the WS420 as well.

The newest Clarion model that would work with your existing remotes is the CMD5. Newer models like the CMD6, etc. will need the current model remotes.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know.

If anyone has a CMD5 laying around they would be willing to part with let me know. Or if anyone has the modified cable for the CD Changer on the XMD1 I'd be interested in purchasing it.

I recently just replaced my XMD1 with the CMD6 and like he said above, you will have to replace the remotes. Luckily, I was able to snag one refurbished on eBay for around $175 so I think it will be worth it. With the CMD6 though the wiring harness is exactly the same so it is pretty much just plug and play.

I just actually picked up a CMD5 from ebay a few minutes ago. It was also refurbished, so I didn't break the bank at just over $200 with free shipping. My remotes are in good shape, so I didn't want to have to replace them. Did you get the CMD6 and a wired Remote for $175 or did you have to spring for the remotes as well? That seems like a great deal. I have two remotes so it would have started getting really pricey.

My stereo should be pretty up to date now and will be composed of a Clarion CMD5, WS420, JL M6600 AMP, JL 10 inch Sub, 4 xs-650, and two 6x9 Kickers on the Tower. The tower speakers could probably use an update and an additional amp wouldn't hurt, but funds are starting to run thin. I may have to wait a bit on those, but I figure this is a great start.
