When paired with the Wi-Fi BacPac, the HD HERO2 also supports live video streaming and remote control via smart-devices, computers and the Web wherever Wi-Fi or a mobile hotspot is present. Record one video stream to your HD HERO2′s SD card while sending a second video stream via Wi-Fi to your smart-device, computer or the Web.

Coming in Feb, but I am already thinking about how to integrate this with the Tige touch. Knowing how much ragboy is into gadgets, I would put money on it that he is already developing some sort of solution for this as well.

So how do we capture the wi-fi video stream, output it to the Tige touch, and do all of this without someone holding a laptop or smart device in their lap or hand?

you might be able to find a wifi usb card/antenna that can provide the video stream to Tige Touch. I understand there is a usb input for Tige Touch. The only barrier I can think of would be software, the output from the USB would have to be able to "talk" with Tige Touch to provide a video signal for the screen.

There is already a Video function for Tige Touch. Its on my 2010, but hidden a little. With newer models now that the tower camera is an option, the video button is on the home screen. There are RCA connections on the Medallion box for the video input.

I got one of the new hero2s when it first hit, and the quality and updates are amazing, love it. There are a couple of issues though, I need to spend some time and work them out. The wifi remote is huge deal, no doubt about that. That is going to be great for mounting a camera somewhere like down on the transom and still be able to start and stop easily. The wifi video streaming will be good to check your framing also in those situations, since I have found the lcd backpack to almost be useless. It won't be much good for anything else, since the way these work is that the hero streams to a smart app on your iPhone or android, it doesn't stream to a video receiver that you can easily do video out to the tige touch. Great for framing and checking if lens is fogged, wet, or whatever.

There is another camera setup I am starting to experiment with that works better I think for the steaming and say output to tige touch, but more on that later...

hmm... well I would say the only way your going to get this to work is have a acess point or ptp link that can associate between that camera and a device on the other end. meaning like Access point -> to client relationship like a laptop to AP. So with that said it will take some doing in the wireless world. meaning your going from video to ip and then you need to back from ip to video. medallion has those ports.. but wont do anygood with out something head ending before that.

sorry I am a network guy.. been looking at this myself.. hence debating just tapping rca jacks into my tower at the top and hard cabling down to medallion due to lack of firware \ chipset capabilities in the system as it stands today.

Well, its a lot easy to just connect a cable to the touch from the go pro, and it can be completely hidden. But the go pro is probably not the best camera for this application.

Like gcombe, I am thinking about hard wiring the Hero2 and be able to hide all the cabling minus what you will see attached to the camera itself.

lol, I can tell you what's wrong with the hero and hero2, but I still haven't gotten the new cameras in house yet, and I need to get a couple in and test first. And I plan on doing something REAL cool with them for wakesurfing and the Z3, but I keep that tight for now, but don't worry, you guys will be first!

The problems are most with connections. The hero is designed to go in a water tight case and record and then you pull the card and edit/etc. But running off of power and taking a video feed from it, are ripe with issues. The video connection uses a crappy mini earphone type plug to an RCA connection, or mini hdmi now on the hero2. The connection is NOT industrial or trustworthy at all, but still way more reliable than the USB mini connection you have to use for power. However, the hero2 video quality is OUTSTANDING.

I would have to concur.. hero not the best solutino given not pulling power via a constant source and tied in so to speak. hero's are great portable solutions for sure... fixed.. not so much.

but on another topic... since looking at what you play with thinking of tying some BLUe led lights into my tige touch. dont have docking lights so plan on using that open slot off the system. already talked to medallion on the port I need to tie a relay into... any good suggestions on a relay or source?

That's a good question, but I haven't got into jacking into a switch back there, but I would imagine it would be fairly straight forward.

Okay i thi k this may be possible if you have a high powered phone. Use your phone as a hotspot, thether go pro to phone voa app that plays video, use a video adapter for the tige touch. If you have an iphone it shouldnt be too tough?

Have any of you guys found an iphone app yet for the go pro? I spoke with my Tige dealer today and he recommended the Go Pro camera. Pick one up and now trying to figure out the cleanest way to connect to the Tige Touch.
Any ideas?
