    New to me 2002 21V

    Hi all,

New to the forum and Tige boats. Just picked up a 2002 21v Riders Edition with 359 hours on it. I have been reading up on some of the issues and realize this one may need a bit of work. I had it inspected by my local mechanic and I already know the transmission has a small leak, it needs a new blower and I suspect a steering cable. Otherwise it looked good as the motor ran good and the transmission shifted in and out of gear well. The mechanic was overall impressed with the boat.

Because it is in the middle of the winter here and the launches are dry and icy I couldn't launch it, so I hope there was nothing else wrong with it. This one has a wake air tower on it and from what I can find the company either went out of business or is now Roswell Wake Air. Anyone know anything about these towers? I know the Metcrafts were trouble, but don't know much about this one.

One other question is my dash in the cockpit is molded and a bit more modern than the flat dash I've seen in pictures that say it is the same year of boat. Is the dashboard the difference between a rider's edition and a limited or is it they are just different year models? Also any other advice on this particular boat would be great. I am super excited. It is going to be a long winter...

Welcome to the family. Can't answer your questions, but you will love the versatility of your new boat. Surf, wakeboard, ski or tube, it can do them all with a minimum of modification. Post up those pics.

        Pics of the new Tige

These are all the photos I have so far. You can see how the dash is the contoured version. Overall I think it is pretty clean. Just can't wait to get it in the water. I'm coming from an older Maxum 19ft I/O, so this is a huge upgrade for me. We will mostly be hydrofoiling behind it.

Sweet. Welcome to the site. I do believe that dash came out in late '02. Tige has always made changes mid-model year. If they come up with something new and better, they just start putting it on the new boats regardless of what day it is. You see a lot of little nuances like that through the years.

That's gonna be a hell of a nice upgrade from a 19' Maxim (fancy Bayliner). It should be a great foil boat for you. Great choice.

The tower. Looks to be fairly period correct. Not too sure about the Wake Air/Roswell connection or the performance of it. I think you're gonna find out though. Towers were still in their infancy back then and have come a long, long way. Be prepared to replace it. There are several good options these days, the best of which would be Samson. You probably won't notice any difference from behind the boat but, in the boat you will know right away. If that Wake Air shakes or rattles or wobbles at all, do yourself a favor and get a new tower. It's a wonderful upgrade.

Speaking of upgrades, FAE. Just get one and be done with it. Best upgrade ever.

I have the same dash in my boat. 2002 23v. I believe that dash is specific to 2002, I haven't really seen it on anything else, maybe some early 2003's.

With the tranny leak, I had a similar one on mine. I found it to be a bad o-ring on the transmission. I would have to look through and find the part number I bought for it. But you can go to mercruiser's website, and go to parts express, put in your engine serial number ( which you can find on your engine cover or block itself), it will give you exploded views of every part on the engine and tranny.

Wow! Your boat looks incredibly clean and brand new. That vinyl looks pristine. Did you just remove the pile on in the back? I was thinking I would do the same. I am not sure if you can lower it or not.

The mechanic mentioned it was probably just an O-ring. I saw where it was leaking just on top where a bolt was and it looked very accesable. The mechanic didn't think it was a big deal, and said the seal should be no problem, but cautioned that if it was ran for long with low tranny fluid it could have been damaged. He didn't think the tranny acted like it was in need of a full rebuild though or anything that major.

Both FAE and Samson usually run off season discounts. Bought my Samson tower last January and got a great discount on the tower, lights and stereo. Also purchased my FAE last Jan and got a discount there too. Great looking ride, but I am partial to the 99-02 style. You will love it.
