    Boat cover VENT

Have any of you ever seen a boat cover with a vent that lets air in and out but keeps the rain out???

After a day at the lake with kids hopping in and out the boat gets soaked. When we get back to the hotel parking lot I cover it each night to keep the looky-loos and hopefully the theivs away. The problem is the boat never dries out. With normal temps above 100 it just steams everything.

vent are very good indeed, in my sail boat( sorry that is the only thing i can say i have any experance with vents) i have one in it, works like a charm, the one in mine is solor powered too so i can turn it on and forget about it, i feel one for a tige would be a good investment, i think im going to pick one up after my tige is done being refurbished.

Here is what I did to vent my cover.

I acquired a squirrel cage blower with motor that was salvaged from a piece of equipment. The blower ran on 110V so there was no battery drain problem. I built a bracket out of wood to hold the blower. I then attached 3" bilge vent hose (about 10 feet) to the output of the blower and sealed it with metal duct tape. The hose is then run under the edge of the cover into the boat. The seats are left open when the boat is covered.

The blower runs 24 hours a day and sits on the ground under the swim platform. Large amounts of fresh air are blown under the cover and the air is exhausted around where the hose enters the covers.

It cost me nothing as it was built from left over parts and pieces. Salvaged electronic equipment is a good source for the blower and motor.

It works well, the boat stays dry and fresh.

I think that some manufacture should come up with a prebuilt system with a blower and hose with an adapter that would allow attachment on the cover. Some sort of clamp ring that clamps through the cover. You attach the hose when necessary, and there is a cover for the opening when the hose is not attached. The system could easily be moved to another cover when it is time to replace the cover.

I did something similar with a fan, except I bought a vertical axis fan from Walmart for $20, instead of bilge hose I used a standard dyer vent hose. It was not zero cost but it was low cost and works well.

The irony in all this is that the owners manual specifically states not to cover the boat if the carpet is wet or damp.

Snap out carpet would solve this problem.

                  Vents in covers

The vents pictured in the FACTORY TIGE COVER (not the ones in my attached picture) were designed to keep the cover ON while towing by creating a vacuum. It utilizes the same principal as do PWC covers. The vents were NOT designed as a primary function to let out moisture.
To fix your existing cover, Simply have 4 vents (minimum) added to your cover and have them (your canvas shop) place small mesh screen behind it to keep out bees and leaves. Have them placed at the top of the cover by your tent poles.
This is how we do it up here in Pittsburgh, PA for the covers we put on our Tige's. See attached picture.

A bad day of boating is better than a good day of work, anyday!

So if I don`t have vents on my cover for my 06 I don`t have an original cover? My cover does not look like any of those posted. And my cover goes all the way over the swim deck. The covers in the pictures look much better. My dealer told me not to tow with my cover on because it can flap and cause damage to the boat.(?)

Dealers can get covers anywhere they want, yours might be a different brand. Sounds like it could be a Westland cover made with Sharkskin.

I looked on overtons.com and found 3 vents. The ones pictured above would vent great but I'm guessing rain would get in (yes/no???) Two others were the Boat Vent II, and the Vent-Sol-Air solar powered vent. These last 2 are attached to the cover and proped up by a cover pole. Do any of you guys have either of these??? Do they vent well and keep out rain???
