Hydrous Wake Cable Park -- Allen Station Park

Anyone been to the new Cable Park (Hydrous Wake Park) yet north of Dallas? Going to be in the neighborhood this weekend for the TX/OU game and thought I might give it a go Friday.

I'm not sure if it's open. It was supposed to be open last summer but was on hold for some reason. If there is a phone number call ahead to make sure it's there.

It is open. I live close buy, but havent been yet. Looks good and have heard some good talk about the system.

On the main like I know there is a kicker and 2 sliders.

There is also a seperate beginers lake for teaching how to get up and ride on a cable.

                Hydrous is open!!!

I live in Allen and have been covering Hydrous since they began construction ... they hosted the WWA Triple Crown on Sept. 16 & 17 & opened to the general public on the 19th. MyTownTour.com has a page specifically for Hydrous & has all the videos we took on & pictures ... go to http://mytowntour.com/hydrous_cable_wake_park.html ... there's a link to Hydrous' official page there as well ... btw, this is my first time wakeboarding & I'm already hooked!

It's open. My son and a few of his friends went a couple weeks ago. They had a blast and spoke very well of the park.

Thought I'd share my thoughts on Hydrous after getting a chance to ride there this wknd.

Location is awesome considering its only 30 mins north of Dtown Dallas.

They had 2 2.0 systems which will be great for rail jams, but they were only being used for teaching beginners and they didn't have any obstacles in the lakes for them so I didn't ride them. I wish they could set one up for intermediate/advanced riders and fill it with obstacles and leave the other empty and devote it to teaching beginners.

The main cable lake runs clockwise which was a fun change. The lake is smaller than TSR which made walking back to the starting dock much faster.

To get my complaints out of the way first, despite the shorter walk back to the dock, the smaller lake and locations of the towers made it very difficult to get into any kind of rhythm when riding. This was primarily because each turn at the towers were very sharp and if you did not swing out wide to the outside through the corners the rope would go completely slack and you would pop the handle. While there was a huge variety of obstacles, any time I found myself hitting a slider or kicker on the inside closest to the island to the middle, I felt rushed because immediately after landing i would have to edge hard to the outside to make it through the next turn. I think this could be solved if they adjusted the locations of all obstacles or even took a few out so that you had more time and room.

Obstacle set up was as follows:

To the left off the starting dock is a sweet cylinder shaped rail.

Directly after are two identical kickers, one on the left and right. I really liked this but noticed the cylinder rail got in the way if you wanted to take a very aggressive cut starting from the left side of the lake towards the right kicker (in other words you would have to start to the right of the rail instead of further left like I wanted)

You then pass through the first 3 towers to make the turn to the backside of the oval shaped lake.

Immediately after the turn to the back stretch, there is a box connected to an a frame on your right (just like the one at tsr): I absolutely hated this location because I wanted to practice some transfers but never felt comfortable with such a short approach because, and I stress, the a frame was literally on your right directly after the turn.

After the aframe was a flatbar on the right and a rooftop rail to the left. Again hitting the flatbar sucked because as soon as you land you have to edge out hard just to make the turn.

As far as air tricks go, all I can do is ralley's (SP?) so I really can't give an expert opinion on how the cable felt (in terms of stretch and how much pop you can get)

All in all I was impressed with the friendly people working and the quality of the obstacles. All the sliders and kickers were professionally built and didnt look like something made in your garage.

I think if they made the main lake a little less crowded by removing some obstacles and changed the location of a few you could really improve the overall finish.
