Limp mode alarm and Speedometer issues

So we just got back from an awesome week at Lake Powell, but I'm having a few issues with my 2006 22Ve:
1) Speedometer only works off and on. When it does work, the Tige speed set works awesome. Doesn't work at all if speedo not working. Paddle wheel spins fine. Of course AZ does not have a real Tige dealer, and when I took boat in to have it looked at, the speedo was working great and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They said: "Well, we can replace this relay sensor for $400 and it may or may not correct the problem. We're not very familiar with these Tige boats." Frustrating. Thinking of switching to a GPS Perfect Pass. Does anyone know if it is a Plug-n-Play or is it a lot more involved? Is it worth it or any suggestions? A friend of mine just installed one on his Moomba and it's fantastic.
2) Limp mode alarm went off during a few runs. Turning the boat on and off would stop the alarm and we could continue wakeboarding, but once I went back to neutral it would start again. Charged both batteries to FULL and no issues for several days. Then happened a few more times??? Not sure what to try next- suggestions?
The biggest problem is not having a Tige dealer close that I can trust with service.

Does your '06 have SpeedSet or I think it was called accuset? Do you have a display? From what I was told when looking for a boat that on an '06 you could put a perfect pass but there were some complications and was not recommended. I don't recall if it was the throttle by wire that caused this or another reason. That was one of the main reasons I steered clear of the '06's.

I have an 07 24ve and had a similar LIMP mode issue--happened at speeds between 20-24mph, but also happened with speed set on or off. We'd be crusing and all of a sudden the alarm would go on and the RPMS drop to limp. I'd put to neutral, the alarm would stop and boat would be fine. I noticed every time this happened the hour meter reset back to the last time it started up. Talked to Tige and they thought it was an electrical issue somewhere or maybe a loose wire or connection.

I 'fixed', or it 'was fixed' this summer by either one or two things. Or maybe we did these 2 things and it hasn't happened since:

1. I took to a dealer who put the diagnostic tool on the engine to see what the error code was that was causing the limp mode. But there wasn't an error code showing up, and it was like the ECM memory was reset.

2. There was a red connector wire that was unhooked that went from the battery somewhere towards the engine--I've read it has something to do with voltage difference, and sometimes they are undone. He hooked that up with the blue crimp joiner to see if that made a difference. The picture shows where the wire was--it was on the battery side of the engine--or the right side if looking at the stern.

After doing both of those tasks, we have not had the limp mode, where I used to get it multiple times every time I went.

As an untrained guy, my guess is probably is some voltage issue that the ECM gets confused by and goes to limp. Neutral or resetting it was OK.

Either resetting/clearing whatever code fixed it, or somehow hooking back up that wire did it.

Limp mode / alarm at idle right, not a speed? yep - turning boat off and then on would temporarily fix the problem.

Same here. How old are your batteries? Alt may be shot, and the throttle accuator may have gone bad. Chased problem for 1year. Changed all above and works now. Never new which of the three fixed the problem, but it did. Brand new batteries, brand new alt, brand new throttle actuator. One of them was the problem, maybe multiple, CHP help me thru the issues..... and Mr. Rick Correll the president did too.

With the speedo and Accu-Set both not working, id bet its a triducer/paddle wheel problem. Both rely on the same signal.

The paddle wheel triducers are made by Airmar and are not unique to Tige. Most newer boats run this same paddle wheel sender setup, so you should be able to find a boat shop that can diagnose and repair.

For the limp mode, knowing what code the ECM is setting would be a big help. Since you have an 06 with the Tige EIDB, I would start there for the limp mode issue. When you say the batteries are "full" whats their static voltage level when the problem is happening? It only take a difference of a volt or less to send the ECM into limp mode.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will re-charge batteries and check voltage once fully re-charged. I did replace both batteries at beginning of season, but it may also be alternator, or one of the batteries could be bad (it's happened before).
Probably just replace the paddle wheel triducer and see if it fixes the problem.

I've had both of these problems with my 2006 22v. The speedometer problem ended up being the tri-ducer. Order it from west Marine and have them special order the part from Faria part #sn0031. Here's the thread I posted on replacing the tri-ducer.

My boat was going into limp mode whenever we crossed a wake. It ended up being a loose ignition. The part where the key fits had worked loose and was sending a funny signal to the computer whenever it got bumped. I tightened it down and no problems since.
