Time for a new Camera

Our Canon Rebel XT we bought I think in 2007 has gotten long in the tooth. Time to upgrade, and I have been looking at several cameras and on amazon, but Amy found this deal:

That same camera and lens is like $1450 on amazon, and this includes a nice bag, 4GB card and some other decent goodies for $1299. VERY good deal. I almost went to the 7D, but this 60D is so close. The main thing is the XT only does 3fps continuous, the 60D does 5.3fps, and the 7D does 7fps.

Chase Hazen, Alec Wood, Chris and Frank Wolter, Sean Cummings, Vanessa Gonzales, Korina Smyrek, Dennis Horton and of course RJ, Maxx, Jess, T-Bone will all be surfing on Lake Oroville with us on Sunday and Monday, so will get to try this bad boy out.

Costco has the good deals. We bought our Nikon D3100 on the way to your house and it was $75.00 cheaper than Walmart with the extra 55-200 lens.

Looks like an all-star crowd for the weekend.

Y, should be fun 2 days. 2 canons, 3 2d go pros and 1 3d. Cameras in pontoon and 24Ve. Too bad we didn't have the Z3 yet, but we will do it again!

We have the Nikon D5000 with a 28-200mm lens. Now they make a 28-250mm lens, which would be perrrrrrrfect for wakeboarding, with the 28mm doing the job for up close stuff....wake surfing. It's nice not having to change lenses.

That is the EXACT camera and lens I bought my wife for Mother's Day. I also got her a circularly polarized filter since on-water shots can have glare issues. It is absolutely awesome. You made an excellent choice.

I too almost got her the 7D but the only real benefits were a second DIGIC processor that permitted the sequenced shots to run faster (as you noted) and a different (better?) multifocusing system. Saving money with the 60D was nice, but the final vote in its favor was that it is smaller and lighter than the 7D. Since a camera is only as good as its lens, I chose to put the money and the weight in the lens and save it on the body.

BTW, the 60D + this lengthy lens fits comfortably in the 24Ve's glovebox, so you can protect it from water when necessary and still grab it fast when it's time to start shooting.
