    Boatpix.com

Not sure if this is a national company or not, but a heli flew by us on Sun this weekend and it was obvious they were taking pictures. With boatpix.com on the tail boom we decided to see what it was all about. Come to find out they mail out 16x20 pictures and you keep what you want to buy and mail back what you don't want to keep. The kicker is each pictures is $250. Has anyone ever bought any of these pics?

No but if you read the fine print the pictures are their property. If you reproduce them they can sue you.I personally think it's an invasion of privacy, because i didn't request them to take a picture. Now if someone i know takes a picture and offers it to me thats different.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

A Buddy here at work bought some of the pictures. They were of very high quality. What they don't tell you is that the pilots are young commercial pilots looking to build time,so the boatpix company provides the helicopter and the pilots are either free (or they have to pay an hourly fee for use of the helicopter, but at a reduced rate) Considering helicopter time is $200 + per hour I guess its a win win.

I did read something in the FAQ that said you can buy the digital copies but they are much more expensive because they become your property. Hinting at the fact that unless you buy digital they still own the rights to the picture.

I know one thing this guy could fly that chopper. He was doing circles around us 30-40ft off the water while we were doing 20mph.
Guma THANKS AGAIN for a great weekend!!! My family and I had a great time! You throw one hell of a party brother!

Anytime a professional photographer makes an image it is their property, even if the picture is you, unless you have a contract with the photographer that you paid for and own the right for that image. Even wedding pictures belong to the photographer unless you specifically paid for the rights to the originals or to reproduce.

It's an interesting business idea to take pics of boats on the water and hope the owners check out the website. Iwndr how well they are doing?

They took pictures of our old boat and looked up who we were by our boat registration. That is why i felt it was an invasion of privacy,i didn't request them to take or solicit the pictures.

Got it, I didn't realize they were also contacting boat owners and soliciting the pictures they took. Iwndr how they got your contact info from your registration numbers, I thought they were FOUO just like liscense plates.

They took pictures of dad's boat....kicker is you pay the money up front without seeing the picture of the boat, then they'll give you your money back if you send the picture back. It was about $300 with the shipping, which is really high for a 16x20 from anyone.

That is spendy but flight time in a helo isn't cheap either, they must have to charge alot to compensate for the "no thank yous". Sounds like a terrible business idea, but how did the picture turn out, was it worth it?
