I will have pics soon, but also am going to do a podcast towing my 9000 lb travel trailer up the 32 grade up the mountain, about 6%. Its a nasty hill. Only my 8.1L yukon xl 2500 could do it decently before. The silverado 5.3 with 3.42 gears just wasn't strong enough, and I found out that you can't find them with 3.73 with the 5.3, only the bigger engine.
So I will do my own tests, but this is pretty cool:

All I have to say is: "What does TRUE patriotism look like in your driveway?"
Always been a GM guy, work for Ford now, still prefer the GM's. My 2000 GMC Siera 2wd with 5.3 & 3.73 has always towed like a champ year after year she keeps going strong.
Good decision ragboy, hope you enjoy it.
I don't want to go to work, take me wake surfing instead!
LOL, if we wanted diesels i think most of us would buy them.
Then I think if you want a truck to pull $hit you would wise up and buy a diesel that gets twice the mileage with 10 times the pulling power.
I mean who would want a new cummins v8 diesel 5.0L getting 30mpg that would be dumb!
325 hp @ 4,000 RPM
Torque:
460 lb-ft. @ 2,000 RPM
would just suck! lol
Didn't you read the manual? You not supposed to tow for something like 900 miles. I knew you would like the ford!
Y, I have RTFM tattooed above my a$$. ;-) It says don't tow til 1000, and first 500 towing under 70. I am at 650 now, the truck already had 500, a dealer switch.
Can't wait to test it, only test I have done so far is climbing up our mountain. I live at 3000 ft, and climb the mountain every time we go down to get home. it varies from like 4-6% grade until Paradise. Even on my yukon with the 8.1L, if you set cruise for 65, it will drop down to 3rd on the two steepest parts. The F150 with Ecoboost just chugged at like 2000 rpm up the hill in 6th gear. Stuck right on 65 and didn't move, no downshift, just purred.
As soon as I get up to 1000 miles, I will hook it up to my 27 foot travel trailer which up until now I could only pull with the yukon xl 2500 8.1. The sierra 1500 5.3 could take it a few miles to dump the toilet if I took it slow and easy, but that was it.
If this thing tows that beast, and I will test up the 32 grade which is killer, then I will be amazed. Diesels tow great, but never liked them for around town kind of stuff, this may give me the best of both worlds. Seems to good to be true, but just driving it around town, its amazing, puts you back in your seat. A LOT more powerful than the 5.3 2011 Silverado I test drove, and a LOT more powerful than my sierra 5.3 with the Granatelli Pull Hard kit that adds about 55HP.
The only negative is it does have a TOUCH of turbo lag. But less than any other turbo I have ever driven. Its a momentary like half second hesitation when you hit it off the line hard. The 5.3 jumps out quicker, but the ecoboost then just throws you back in your seat and pulls hard. Super quiet also, don't hear any turbo whine.
Ragboy, I am a little late to the party sorry. Glad to see you got yours! I bought an Ecoboost back in March (custom ordered in January). Supercrew 6.5' bed 4x4 3.73 offroad package trailer tow package, etc. I ordered it for one purpose-to tow the Tige. Secondary purpose-to get to work, lol. I typically tow about 3000' on the weekend from my storage shed at the marina to the boat ramp, but do tow far on occasion. I towed the boat cross country from Texas to Pennsylvania and back for our summer vacation. The truck performed phenomally. We got about 11.5 mpg in the flats and 10 in the hills-running hard 75+? 24 hours+ each way. I get about 19 back and forth to work only because I got the 3.73 gears. I knew that though going in. My wife and I have driven fords all my life except for an Audi once and the wife drives a honda. I will post a better write up of our trip sometime soon.
well , I have been reading this thread with great interest. My Chevy was getting older, had a 115k miles but was in decent shape over all but I was in the market for a new truck. I was looking at the Chevy 2500 duramax and the Tundra Crew Max. I really liked the Tundra the best but I could have gone Chevy also. Then I read this thread....I had not really even considered the Ford Ecoboost. I drove one this am and pulled the triger on it. I like it. It has the same room as the Tundra Crew Max, it drives well and looks great. I wont tow with it for a while but I feel that it will do well. The interior is a little plasticy but they all were. This truck was by far the cheapest and I got a loaded truck. The biggest thing for me was financing and they offered 0% which you cant beat. Here are the pics

I've been looking at the exact same truck in the XLT. That wood on the dash in the Lariat is horrid to me (no offense).... The one I looked at today is a supercrew loaded ecoboost and under 30k. The only thing that is holding me back is there are rumors to a ecoboost going in the Expedition . Boating season will be over in a month so I may wait till spring to pull the trigger unless the deal gets better.
