Tige speed set 2005 tige 22i

My buddy is looking at a 2005 22i that does not have any cruise control. Another friend of mine (kartz) has a 2006 20i with the same marine power motor and he was told you cannot put perfect pass on, it must be tige speed set. What is he going to be looking at for price to buy and instal speed set. The boat sounds pretty decent but is a pretty base model but low low hours.

You can put perfect pass on his 20i. It doesnt matter if its EFI or Carb. either.

He asked around and everyone said to go the speed set route becuase it would not work with perfect pass, but that was not my question.

I have no idea what speed set will be, but Perfect Pass Stargazer (GPS) is like $1400.
His best bet would be to call PP and ask them if their device will work on his boat.

An 05 with a Marine Power engine should have a cable driven throttle and Perfect Pass will work. An 06 with Marine Power would be TBW, thus Tige Speed-Set was the only option.

I called down to the Tige dealer where I bought mine from and he was under the understanding that he would need to put in speed set as well but they are not a big tige dealer and maybe he is not that familiar with the 05 models. The problem with putting perfect pass on my friends 20i was supposedly the computer on the marine power motor but maybe it was the throttle by wire, I did not realize 06 was the first year of that. This brings me to the next question about my boat. Its an 06 and does not have throttle by wire and has a mercruiser engine which according to tige was not available in 06, I bought the boat brand new and nothing has been changed, anyone able to shed some light on this?

In 06, all Marine Power EFI engines where supposed to be TBW. In 06, Tige was supposedly only using Marine Power. Is this exact....nope! An early 06 could be nothing more then an 05 with an 06 HID on it.

its real easy to tell, just look at the throttle body. If you see a linkage and cable, you're good to go with PP cause its not a TBW engine. If there is no linkage/cable, then its Throttle By Wire and Tige Speed-Set is your option.

The TB on the left is a typical TBW assembly. You can see the throttle motor asm on the side where you would normally find linkage and cable attached like the ones on the right.
