    20V or a VTX Help w decision

Looking at possibly becoming a Tige owner. Looking at 08 20v or a Bu VTX. Educate me why the 20v is advantagous over the VTX. Price on both is comporable and similar options ect... Never rode behide a Tige but have heard alot of good things. Seating is only for 9 vs 10 in the VTX, why? All input appreciated.

They are both good boats and put out nice wakes. There are a few BU owners who are active members of this site and they can tell you very objective comparisons between the two boats. My .02$ is to get a test drive in each and see which one you like better. I was at a boat show last weekend and saw the Axis 22 and all the 2011 models from Malibu. They are all very nice boats and I looked and rode behind a BU before I bought my Tige but I like my Tige more. It's small personal things that I liked about the layout of the cockpit with my small kids in mind. It's hard to quantify, but look at other boat brands too and find the one that fits your lifestyle.

The other item to consider is how close the dealer or service department is to where you live and/or boat. Good or bad service can make or break a good experience in a boat. Just remember all boats will break, and all brands will have their issues. You can scan down the Mx section of this website to get a feel for what breaks on these boats.

I've never ridden behind a VTX, but I have a 20V and have been very happy with it. I'd also suggest driving and even riding behind both if possible. If you can get similar options (TAPS plate, cruise control, nice tower, etc) then it's really down to preference. I have been really impressed with the Tige community and always gotten answers to questions very quickly. Not sure if VTX has as good of a following, but being a part of Tige Owners has definitely made me appreciate my boat more.

      Good luck

One thing that has ways impressed me about the Tiges over the Bu's is the hull lay up. The Bu's that I have seen intimately are paper thin compared to the Tiges. Always freaked me out how thin they are. Does this mean the Bu will fall apart? No, probably not. I just like the overbuilt hull of the Tige. It was why I bought mine way back when and it is still a tank. They are still built like that today.

I have always liked the wakeboard wake better on the Bu. However, the surfwake on the Tige is far superior.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I really appreciate the feedback guys. Spoke w ajholt7 today and it was a pleasure. I may have to drive the 6hrs and see his boat after labor day. I am going to try to look over the boats at my local lake over the next few days and see if I can get a few guys to let me nose around and possibly even get a ride ect... I would like to know more about the fly by wire throttle issues some have had and how you feel about storage, creature comforts ect... Tks

Tough question to answer, kind of like Chev-Ford!

What ever boat you do end up with you will become accustomed to it and you will enjoy it.

I have a had a few boats over the years, trying to upgrade to the "keeper" boat. I am rather interested in the owner. Some (but not all) of the facts I consider are:

                1. Has the current owner been in a position to financially maintain the boat properly.
                2. Does he take pride in is boat. Is it well looked after, little things like carpet being clean, sides of the seats clean, does the storage area smell musty or damp. Is the storage areas neet and tidy.
                3. Is the owner knowledgeable of basic maintenance.
                4. Does the owner have maintenance records or receipts for at home repairs,
                5. Are there alot of dock fenders in the boat?

There is a bunch of little things that would give me an indications the boat is well looked after (or not) by current owner.

My vote would be for TIGE. Very good forum. Also I have had a couple of issues and I have received very good service from both the engine manufacturer and from Tige head office.

Is it possible for me to own a Malibu in the future...sure it is, but I am very happy with the Tiges' I have owned, and the current one I have.

Good Luck for your decision !!

I think the two boats you mentioned are both great wakeboard boats and both make adequate surf wakes. The best way to decide is get everyone who wants to surf or wakeboard and demo them.I know AJ takes good care of his boat.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

I have an 08' 20v that I bought new three months ago. I looked at all the other brands beside Tige before buying my 20v. What did it for me was the wake it threw for wake boarding without any ballast. My best friend has an 08' Sanger 23 VTX, and he has to add 1200# of ballast to throw a wake like my 20v.

Also, I felt that the cruise control on the tige's were easier to operate than the perfect pass. Turn on, set your speed, and go play. Two of the people I work with both have perfect pass on their boats, and they are always complaining about how inaccurate their perfect pass is, or how unpredictable it can be.

Plus for surfing, you don't need a WHOLE lot of weight to get a good size wave. 800# in one of the lockers is more than adequate.

The performance is crazy nuts on this boat. The throttle is smooth and effortless on this boat compared to some of the other boats that I have driven. It may not have all of the creature comforts you get in some of the other boats, but it's performance and ability to go from a wakeboard boat, to a surf boat, and then throw a flat wake for people skiing or people just learning is what really drew me to it.

ajholt's boat is in beautiful shape. i have an 08 20v with 350 hours on it, and it's definitely not as clean as his (not my fault...bought it used). i'd jump all over that one...
