I have been having a sporadic problem that starts with loss of power or should I say engine has to to work harder to achieve the same performance. Usually with 4k of ballast and 6-7 people I run 25mph @ 3600rpm. Then once every 15-20 hrs I will run 25 at 4000 rpm with a noticeable increase in gas consumption. I can add ethanol fuel treatment and octane boaster and it goes away. I always use and test to make sure I am getting ethanol free gas. My boat is 2003 22v with 380hrs. I am thinking the previous owner might of damage the injectors? The other thing is it could be the transmission because on hard turns left it sometimes slightly slips. Any ideas?

I would guess transmission, I think injectors would give you a problem all the time, or more often than you describe. Check for fluid level too high or too low if you can, but there will be far more qualified people to chime in here in a few hours.2009 RZ2, PCM 343, MLA Surf Ballast, Premium Sound.

I don't think it would be injector related either. Bad injectors would inhibit the amount of fuel to the system. If your engine RPMs are higher, but running the same speed I would think it is something past the motor. I agree with Ewok, check your tranny fluid level. Do you notice it when a specific rider is behind the boat? Any additional weight? Does it happen all day? Because my first thought with the comment...'slipping with hard left turns'...was cavitation. Maybe its prop related running that much weight.

It shows a little above the line hot but light flickers until hot. Could I have something impeding flow or does it need more fluid? I heard over filling can damage it. Maybe it just needs changing? Or could the 2k of ballast in front cause it seem fuller than it is?Last edited by goose69; 08-23-2011, 07:14 PM.

Have you checked the fluid while the boat is level? That can definitely skew readings. I usually check mine when on level ground. If you are seeing a light flicker, that is the first place I would investigate. Not sure how many hours you have on your tranny fluid, but most here change every 50 hours or so. I would flush the tranny fluid and fill up to the upper mark while sitting on a level surface.
Did you start noticing these symptoms after the prop change? It could be a combo of the two. Did the guys at ACME recommend that prop? Unfortunately I know very little as far as props, and can't help much.
