    Back in time....

Last night putting my boat in the lake after taking it up to Okoboji for the weekend--ran into Spenchey & Rensink on the water--yo guys....

Anyway I'm putting our 24ve in the water, pull trailer up the ramp, and there is my old 1989 20' VIP that I owned from 2004-2008. I went and introduced myself to the guys who had it--they were coming out to wakeboard. I told him I put the tower on it in 2005. They have kept it in great shape--I said we'd swap boats out on the water--and they were like--yeah--sure. 20 minutes later we idled up and said let's swap for a while. They were VERY OK with that idea.

I got to drive my old boat--has a Ford 302 w/OMC outdrive and it was still very fun fast & torque-y.... but also very rough, mechanical and carbourated. It was like driving a 66 Mustang without power brakes or steering. Fast & fun in an ungainly way. The other guys loved the 24ve. They were popping off the wakes and laughing out loud from the difference. They were amazed by the Speedset and had a great time.

Best thing is every owner of that boat has improved it for the next owner. It was great to go back and see from whence we came.... and then I got in the 24ve and holy crap what a nice boat it is. Roomy. Quiet. Flattens out the waves. Instead of the 66 mustang, it's like a new Saleen Mustang. Both are fun, both have their place..... but I now appreciate even more what I have.

Nice boats and great post. Pretty cool of you to loan your baby out to some strangers but I'm sure well worth the reward of the nostalgia and renewed sense of appreciation of what you have now and where you've come from!

I saw my old boat was for sale on Craigslist last week-sent him an email saying was past owner-had maintenance records and such- we had about 3 emails back & forth. So when I saw him we had already covered some basics.

So I'm kinda like Ragboy in that I got to see my old boat, 'cept his old boat is a 24Ve! It would be cool for all of us to drive our old boat(s) to remember their good points, and relive the flaws that led you to your current Tife.

Cool story. I'd love to get back in my grandpa's old i/o (Krisscraft or something like that) that I grew up skiing behind, and just feel the difference. I'd like my kids to see and feel the difference. My kids will never know anything less than my old burned up 2003 Gekko, and now they're spoiled with my 2011 22Ve. I'm just blessed to be in a position to spoil my kids with a bad *** boat, and I'm very thankful for that.

That's a pretty cool thing to do murph. Must have been fun.

I haven't seen our old SeaSquirel (SeaSwirl) in a long time. I was just thinking about it the other day when we were headed back across the lake in two foot chop and 20mph wind. I was missing the windshield wiper. We used it the first time out on that boat and I thought it was super bitchin. We really used the crap outa that thing.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.
