Last night putting my boat in the lake after taking it up to Okoboji for the weekend--ran into Spenchey & Rensink on the water--yo guys....
Anyway I'm putting our 24ve in the water, pull trailer up the ramp, and there is my old 1989 20' VIP that I owned from 2004-2008. I went and introduced myself to the guys who had it--they were coming out to wakeboard. I told him I put the tower on it in 2005. They have kept it in great shape--I said we'd swap boats out on the water--and they were like--yeah--sure. 20 minutes later we idled up and said let's swap for a while. They were VERY OK with that idea.
I got to drive my old boat--has a Ford 302 w/OMC outdrive and it was still very fun fast & torque-y.... but also very rough, mechanical and carbourated. It was like driving a 66 Mustang without power brakes or steering. Fast & fun in an ungainly way. The other guys loved the 24ve. They were popping off the wakes and laughing out loud from the difference. They were amazed by the Speedset and had a great time.
Best thing is every owner of that boat has improved it for the next owner. It was great to go back and see from whence we came.... and then I got in the 24ve and holy crap what a nice boat it is. Roomy. Quiet. Flattens out the waves. Instead of the 66 mustang, it's like a new Saleen Mustang. Both are fun, both have their place..... but I now appreciate even more what I have.
