thanks for all of the feed back guys.. typically I lerk around, and not post, but I would like to thank Ragboy for starting this off for me. It is me he was refering to. All of your comments have been great.
So the low down is my buddies Bu (2009 23ft Ride)has a really good wake at the lower speeds. seriously it is pretty clean at 15.5-16.5.. not saying it is pefectly clean but at 17.5 he has a clean wake (like zero wash), and frustrating cuz the kids are too scared to take the wake on my boat. another thing I noticed was his wake seemed narrower at slower speeds.. not sure but maybe due to hull design..?? Like "NiceOnes" mentioned we are at the lower speeds for more spins but also getting comfortable Also shortening the rope.(I am doing this as well to get the feeling of actually clearing the wake and landing on the down side of the wake)
I am going to be hangin with him this coming weekend.. I will take some pics of the wake from my boat and his boat.
I have played with the TAPS and moving people around but haven't found the happy place until I get to 19.5-21mph other than that it looks like a cappaccino.

I went kneeboarding this weekend with my niece. She wanted to clear the wake so i got out a 55' line and the wake is clean at 16 mph taps between 0 and 3.Hope that helps. Also the wake is only about 8' wide at that length.
I do all my own stunt work. hey ya'll watch dis.

You can also overload one side to get a better wake. My 7 y/o is jumping and I really don't like him over 17 mph for crashes. I just put a couple of people on the side he is hitting and the wake is clean even at 15 mph. The kids do get a little tired of moving around though

One thing that is not being factored in is the fact that 15 on a Malibu is not 15 on a Tige. Tige's tend to run about 1-1.5MPH slower than a Malibu when at wakeboarding speeds. All of my friends ride for either CWB or WO and we teach quite a bit on the RZ2 I had. No ballast and TAPS at 2 while running at 17.6 is the perfect speed for a beginner rider that does not weigh a lot. We also usually have 3-4 people in the boat weighing between 160-210lbs.

Between my friends and I we have 3 Malibu's, 1 Tige (had one I should say), 2 X-stars, 1 Supra, and now 1 Centurion. We have weighted them all for surfing and wakeboarding. The Tige is one of the favorite's for the pro wakeboarders to ride behind. Feel free to PM me with any questions! Hope this helps...

srtsplitty is dead on. 15 behind a tige is more like 14 or 13.5 behind any other boat. Bump the speed up.

Hey Monkey I am the opposite of these guys. Keep it at 16 but put them as far back as you can get them. Have them stay inside the wake. Putting them far back gives them the most room to start working on edging. If you got an 85 ft rope put them at 85. I do this with all new boarders and once they are up I get them to work on body position and just going straight without their asses out. If they cannot control their board jumping etc is out. So I just have them move from one wake to the other. Once they are comfortable doing that I have them start working on side slides (butter) and power slides surface tricks 180 etc. Stay inside the wake. Also once they get confident and ready to go outside the wake being that far back gives them time between wakes. So the enter heel side ride over the table the exit the other wake and its MUCH slower because of the distance. Just an idea.

Tige will not calibrate for speed...never heard that.

all of these pics are with no ballests filled on either boat or with no taps on mine and his with no wakeplate.
as soon as I get my taps down at all especially at 3 it is just a ball of froth..I just wonder if something is not right with my boat..

Your boat is fine. Again tige speedometers reed 1.5-2mph fast. Still don't believe me? Drive your tige next to your buddy's bu when he is doing 17 and notice what your speedo reads.

I ride at 25-25.5 mph behind my 06 22ve with 3500lbs of ballast. Behind our neighbors 2011 RZ2 with roughly the same weight we ride at 25-25.5mph yet when we ride behind my friends supra 20v with 4200lbs we never do more than 24.2 and even then I feel like I should be on a slalom ski.

I have taken my iPhone 4 with the Speedometer application, which uses GPS and shows accuracy to tenth of a mile per hour...

Both my 2007 24Ve and my 2010 RZ2 were within .5 mph of the GPS and I felt no need to calibrate, tested at 10 to 15 mph.

At the wakeboard camp they stressed a clean wake for jumping. They said don't get caught up in a set speed, rather look at the wake and clean it up.I have boarded behind many different boats and there is usually a 1-2 mph difference in the speed needed to clean the wake up.Also even though you didn't have Ballast you may have had 5-6 people on the boat which makes a difference.Who's to say your buddies Malibu speedometer isn't reading slow?Ride them side by side and see.

                            //putting on flame resist pants//

We love our Tige. But it never has put out as clean a wake at lower speeds than a buddy's Bu Wakesetter. I have to be above 21 to get a smooth wake. Even then, our Tige is much pickier about weight distribution in the cabin too.

Of course, the "tippiness" is imhop one of the things that makes it such a great surf boat (ie, easier to heel over).

@ragboy, I have an iPhone4 too but I know the gps antenna is too small to get a good, accurate reading for groundspeed. If I were going to calibrate speed I would look for a gps device with the biggest antenna and the ability to capture as many satellites as possible. I would say 12 channels would be good. My airplane has 4 independent GPS receivers, 2 are 12 channel, one is 10 channel and the backup is 4 channel.

I'm looking at the pictures and it looks like the BU is physically moving through the water faster than the Tige. It could be the spedometer is off on one or both boats, or the BU could be a very different hull shape. Either way, play with the speed and taps and rope length until you get the the wake you want, there is no formula to get the perfect wake. Wind, current, and loading of the boat (including how much gas is in the tank) all contribute to wake shape. It's a continuous improvement process to get it "dialed in" and this applies to all boats, Tige and BU alike. Basic setting you may get fom some on this site should be guides or starting points to experiment from. I'm sorry to say there isno easy answer here.

I hear what you are saying, but outside with full line of sight, I get full 5 bars on gps, and I use MotionX:

                                http://news.motionx.com/category/motionx-gps/

To verify I am locked in with accurate signal and several sats. That's gotta be good enough to measure within a half mile an hour.
