    Lake Powell Favorite Spots?

Hello all - We get to spend a week on Lake Powell starting the week after labor day. Our second trip and are getting jacked to be there again. Last time we hit Cottonwood, Escalante and Moqui(or is that Moki) Canyon. Looking for any and all advice on your favorite spots. GPS coordinates couldn't hurt either! Other ideas or fav's welcome too - Thanks

We've parked at Dungeon Canyon for two years in a row.

It is at mile marker 38 and is three miles from Dangling Rope.

On this year's trip the best canyon that we got to was this hole in the rocks formation (not the actual "Hole in the Rock" canyon) on the Escalante River Arm. Sorry but I don't have the coordinates.

Looks like that "hole" is La Gorce Arch.

            That's it!!!!

On the back side there is a ledge about 40' high that the kids were jumping off of.

That arch is shaped like an 'A'...I thought someone was going to call it the A-hole.

Looks like I am going to have to expand my horizons and go further than rainbow bridge next time.

MT, I would guess you are putting in at Bullfrog?

The picture that I posted is from the other side and the size of the people will give you an idea of how large it is.

Cathedral Canyon is very cool too. Not as cool now as it was when the water level was 50' lower but still impressive!

Moki's Crystal Springs looks pretty killer.

                      spots to camp

I just got back from an 8 day trip to Powell. Dungeon is very cool, but was full when we showed up. We actually camped on a giant beach in the main channel between marker 35 and 36. The sand was soft and hardly any ants present. Davis Gulch was packed when we went to visit the Escalante but I would definitely try to find a spot there next time if you have the gas tanks to run without heading to Dangling Wallet or other fill up points very often. Have a great trip!

SanJuan river arm! Two or three large bays and you will have them to yourself (unless im there). The water changes color the farther you get, very green. Easy to find, I think its about mile marker 50. Not to far dangling rope if you need fuel or beer.

Thanks all for the posts and photos. Yes, we are putting in at bullfrog. The group was thinking about the San Juan arm or perhaps going east up river, but dont know anything about that part of the lake. Two years ago we were able to cruise up cathedral canyon. It was amazing. Had to use our arms and legs in a couple of spots to keep from depositing gelcoat on the walls.

We were in Cathedral Canyon this year and last year. Not sure how high the water levels are going to be when you get there but on the last week of July 2011 the water was about 40' higher than in 2010 and the canyons were nowhere near as narrow as in 2011. Back in 2010 we had to walk the boat thru with our arms and legs.

+1 on the San Juan. We camp in Anton Bay and hardly see anyone else the entire week - plus, it's one of the better spots for watersports. It's a good 8 hrs on a houseboat from Bullfrog, but worth the trek !
