Are you running any sort of line amplifier off the headphone jack (as used with high quality headphones)? Or perhaps you are just not cranking it up hard?
My headphone jack seems to put out the same sound, including bass. I am plugging it into the WS 420, not the aux input on the Tige Touch. Maybe that is helping.

The quality of the source, the MP3, is the same, regardless of whether its going into the WS-420 or the head-unit, its whats coming out that will make a diff. The WS-420 is a line driver, so that low level signal from the MP3's headphone jack is increased. The head-unit cant do that anywhere near what a true line-driver can.

Using the MP3's data port should yield a noticeable improvement in sound quality.

IMO, part of the problem is the Apple software, not the device its interfaced with. The Malibu with the Malivu uses the same Medallion system with both the JBL "Black Box" up through 2010 and not the Rockford Fosgate in 2011. Both have complaints about Ipod interfacing.

But the clarion remote works twice as fast.

I'm not sure if it will display the playlist name however when I "touch" forward arrow or reverse it seems to start some random songs from my libary instead of starting the next playlist.
Just wish I don't have to keep unplugging the phone, select a new playlist, plug it back in... wish the interface from tige touch could allow me to do all of this from the panel.

Has anybody tried a USB thumbdrive with music files loaded?

When you're listening to songs in a playlist and press foward (or back) on the touchscreen, it will just jump to the next (or previous) song in that list. In order to get back to the list of playlists, you need to press the "Menu/Band" button on the touchscreen. Then, you'll be able to scroll between lists. If you want to back out further to the Artists/Playlists/Genres/Etc." level, just press "Menu/Band" again.

I just thought of something else. The Clarion headunit that came with mine (CMD6) has a "simple" setting for the USB iPod interface. This allows you to use the controls on the iPod instead of the headunit/touchscreen. So, you can have the iPod plugged into through the USB/dock connector for sound quality and charging but still use the iPod controls for faster scrolling, etc.

One issue with that setup is that you can only control the iPod from near the glove compartment unless you get a long USB connector cable and run it under the floor to the driver's side. Before you do that, check that the headuit will recognize the iPod using that cable. Sometimes, if the cable is too long, the signals from the iPod will not get to the headunit.

I think the touchscreen is just using the clarion interface, like an API. So the touch interface is limited to the clarion API. The touch is controlling the clarion, which is controlling the iPod. I believe that is why they mimic the look of a clarion remote. The touch screen is just acting like a clarion remote, and seems to work as good as that for us. We use our iPhone 4s and the older iPod nanos (no video) just fine. One thing we do, is we have a playlist already done, you go to that playlist before connecting to the clarion and find that playlist and start playing that playlist. So we start playing and make sure on shuffle, THEN connect to the clarion. It will start playing right where you left it, where you wanted. Then you just use skip or previous. Works great. Almost every car/truck/boat interface we have doesn't work great, so we do all of them this way. The exception is my Audi, which has a great interface.

My truck has a clarion with BT and connector, I like to use the BT interface, because I can use the phone to navigate songs instead of the stereo, which has a sucky interface.

Anyway, try the method above, start playing where you want it, then connect.

Do you know how to activate this feature or are you gonna make me read the manual?

Sorry, have to read the manual. I tried it a while back, and it worked. I just don't remember how to do it off the top of my head.
