    Weight of Boat on Trailer

Last night I stopped at a gas/truck stop that had Certified Scales and decided to weigh our 24ve on it's trailer.

    2007 24ve with eSeries Tower
    1/4 tank of gas--figure 12 gals @ 8# about 100#
3 Wakeboards, 2 surfboards, 1 pair of skis, anchor etc....
Prestige dual axle tandem trailer with spare tire
4 tower speakers, amp, subwoofer, dual batteries, etc

Total weight of boat on trailer 5,340#

The 24ve listed dry weight is 4,320# so the trailer and goodies add about 1,000# to the towing weight

That's lighter than I would have guessed. Do scales take tongue weight into consideration?

The way the scales work is there are several separate sections that weigh axle's separately. They are set up to weigh the semi tractor separate from the trailer.

In my case my tow vehicle (2004 Ford Expedition) rested on one section
The trailer/Boat axles sat on another section

The printout showed my "steer axle" (Ford Expedition) weight was 6,460#
The Trailer Axle (Section with boat & Trailer) was 5,430#.
Total Gross weight of both was 11,800#

Maybe the tongue weight showed up in the weight of the ford expedition because the listed curb weight is 5801, and I weight about 200# so it should have been closer to 6000 than 6460

Anyway, that is what the printout read

460 would be just about right for your tongue weight as well.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Add that 460 to the 5,340 and you get 5,800 which is closer to the 6,000 lb number that I was expecting.

Yup, tongue weight is weight of the trailer/boat combo...
                Waiting for another good one!

This thread demonstrates the need to look at the tire load ratings on your trailers. If you have a shitty company Like Extreme Custom trailers that puts the minimum rated tires on the trailer for the empty weight of the boat, you could be headed for big trouble.

The idiots had C rated tires on my boat trailer that just barely rated the empty weight of the boat.

It wasn't long before I blew my first tire and curled the stainless steel fender like a tuna can..

I now run D rated tires and haven't had those problems.
