    fuel problem i think

just bought 2000 20i tige BOUT month a month ago. 350 mercruiser. ran good at first then started dying out. there is aan electrical inline connector(not a mechanic) that comes apart and somebody told me to unsnap it and put it back together. dont know if it helped butl after about 10 minutes boat started. continued skiing and it did it again. so i took it to boat mechanic and told him my problem. he checked out this part. when you turn the ignition key you would here this pump gas, sometimes it wouldnt make a sound and you would know the boat wasnt going to start. what is this little inline connector. anyway he replaced the fuel pump, didnt work. then he just took out this connector and hard wired it. now it runs about 5 minutes, then starts sputtering dies out and wont start. that noise i heard pumping gas sounds like it is running all the time but when the engine is running dont know if it is still pumping. calling annother mechanic today. any helop would be appreciated, i bought the boat to pull my 15 year old son, spent alot of money and havent been able to usee it. sorry so long but i am frustated and confused and hope i didnt get taken with this boat.

Welcome to the site. Someone can correct me but my manual says NOT to put and inline filter in the gas line. I know this doesn't help, but maybe that is your problem.

should be a sensor, oil pressure sensor that turns your fuel pump on it is located right by your oil filter has two wires going to it, one purple one purple with yellow on it try tying those together and see if it runs if it does u prolly just need a new sensor,if not that prolly some kind of vapor lock phenomenon but i dont know any thing bout that stuff just sayin the sensor tried to put an end to my weekend before. good luck, i know too well about being taken, thats why i have a 25k$ 2001 20i.

Welcome to the site! Where are you located?
There has been problems with hot soak, vapor lock due to the increased ethanol in the fuel. Does the boat start and idle up normally the first time? If so, does it have problems restarting after you have pulled a rider, shut off the engine and stopped for awhile?

TALKED TO THE MECHANIC THAT HAS BEEN WORKING ON IT. HE IS GOING TO CHECK THAT OUT AND HE WANTS TO RUN AN OUT OF TANK FUEL TANK AND SEE HOW IT RUNS. MAKE ANY SENSE TO YOU? HE IS NOT CHARGING ME ALOT OF LABOR, IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE SUGGESTIONS I WOULD APRECIATE IT. THANKS AGAIN. RICK
