I have a 1999 PRE2200Vwt. I bought the boat new in October of 1998. What are your specific questions and I will try to help you out. You can see the pictures in the Gallery
Thank you Shane!
I´m about to buy one, and I just want to have some opinions about that model. Is it worth to buy a used one, or is it better to go for a newer model? My budget is limited, so price is of course a big factor.
Is there any specific parts or features that you have to be careful with that boat being 7 years old?
I have really enjoyed the boat. I will buy a new Tige in 06. I would recommend that you have the packing gland on the V drive replaced to the new PSS shaft. This costs about 300 dollars and will make the boat almost a dry bottom boat. I would also ask to see the owners service records to make sure he maintained the boat properly. My favorite feature on the boat would have to be the amount of room it has. I also love the Perfect pass Wakeboard pro.
Things I have done to the boat:
1. Replaced the water pump
2. Replaced the drive shaft packing gland
3. Upgraded my Perfect Pass to Wakeboard Pro.
4. Replaced almost all the seat covers.
5. Replaced the Trailer brakes
6. Reglued all the dashboard gauges because they all cracked. ( Their was a thread on here about these gauges)
7. Replaced the depthfinder
8. Replaced the bilge pump
The boat throws a great wakeboarding wake when you add weight to it. If you are looking to ski the wake is recreational at best. The performance of the boat is great I have the 350 Mercruser in mine.
I don´t know exactly how the boat I´m interested in is equipped, but hopefully I will be able to take it for a testdrive this week.
It doesn´t seems like there´s anything specific I have to look for. Most of the things you mentioned is just regular maintaince I guess.
I´m not from the US so I don´t know what packing gland is, but I guess it´s the material round the propellershaft!? Correct me if I´m wrong.
The most important thing is that it throws a good wakeboarding-wake, and that it doesn´t have any known major errors that costs a lot of money. To fix and replace a few things now and than is just normal for a boat that age. That I am fully aware of.
Is there room for putting weight under the seats, when the seats goes almost 360 degrees?
I own a 1998 PRE2000i. I bought the boat used about three years ago with 210 hours on it. It now has almost 500 hours on it. I have had to have the upholstery replaced this past spring which is probably the most expensive thing I have done to it. It has the Mercruiser 350 mag mpi and it has been a great engine. The only thing I have done to it is replacing the distributor cap and water pump impeller. I replace the impeller every spring. I also have done all of the routine maintenance myself.
I have owned boats all of my life but this is my first towboat. It takes a little getting used to, especially docking. Towboats do not drive like outboards. I love the fact that I can load it down with 10 people and still have plenty of power to do anything we want to do.
I had a mechanic friend of mine go with me on my testdrive and he could not find anything wrong with the engine. Make sure the engine does not have a noticeable miss to it and it accerlates smoothly. As long as it has had its regular maintenance, you should not have any problems with it.
I have also had to replace the bilge pump a couple of times. It is important to make sure the bilge pump works all of the time.
Hopefully I´ll be able to take it for a testdrive today.
I´ve ridden and driven a lot of wakeboard-boats, mostly Supra. And I´ve owned a Moomba Mobius a couple of years ago. That was a brand new boat so that time I just had to take care of the maintainance, not worry about what any previous owner hade done or not done with the boat.
It seems like it´s a pretty decent boat if it has had its regular maintainance. As with everything you cherish you have to take good care of, your car, your wife etc. Or else it´s gonna fail you when you need it the most.
I´ll let you know how the testdrive went. If anyone has more comments they want to share about this model, feel free to post.
I have a PRE2200i not a 2000i. I need more coffeee in the morning before I start writing these things.
Another thing to check is to make sure the steering is not too loose. I did have to replace my steering cable recently.
Funny.. Im am also going to buy a 2200V -98 Im courious about the wakesize and shape, since I cant testdrive it in water I will not be able to try the wake but im going to look at the boat in three weaks and maybee get a good picture of how it is on the water.. But if you guys have any information about the wake compared to supra or malibu that would be nice since I have ridden both supra and malibu. Anyway is the wake steep or mellow? big or small? Anyone have pictures of the wake behind one? Thanks!
This reply is in Swedish since it´s easier for me. If anyone wants it translated, please let me know!
Man bör dock placera lite last i fören, annars blir den väldigt seg i starten.
Vart skall du köpa den ifrån? Är det Richard och Ulrik i Stockholm?
Jodå, the test run went good. The balance is entire OK. Become not deterred if you think the balance is small without load in the ship. I had a Moomba Mobius earlier, and without load each that balance not in particular big. But with little ethnic in the ship and some fatsacs so became the really good. The balance after Tigén is however bigger than Moomban. We have not lasta the something than, but is one 5-6 pcs so becomes the balance entire OK. One should however place little load in the stem, otherwise becomes the very chewy in the start.
