I was at the lake today and when I was putting the boat back on the trailer I had a few inches to crank it all the way up and then the winch handle skipped around the winch shaft.I pulled the nut off and found that the slot in the handle was to large for the shaft.I tightend it back down hard then it still skipped.I got the boat onto flat ground and tapped the brakes adn it came all the way up onto the trailer,Sinched down the tie downs and all was good.I called Kevin at Tige` precision boats (my local dealer) and told him about the problem.HE said to swing by and they would look at it.Within 5 minutes they had a new handle on it and I was on my way...GReat service again....Thanks kevin..This is better service than a car dealer!!!

More of a question here really....

When I got my boat my dealer showed me once the boat gets up on the trailer - attache the winch and crank her up - i can usually pull it all but the last 4 or 5 inches or so - at which time I have the driver give it a little gas and I can pull it tight to the front hook.

Never heard of bringing it out then tapping the brakes to move the boat fwd - that ways sounds a bit dangerous IMO.

Which way do others do it to make it tight?

I bought a 2200 pound winch for my trailer, with two gears. Makes winching it up a breeze. I just drive it on untill I'm about 6 to 10 inches away and winch it the rest of the way.

Ok when I said I taped the brakes to finish getting the boat on the trailer I only had about 2 inches to go and I was only going about 5 mph..I had the rear tie downs completley tight and after I did that they were loose.I live in AZ and a few of the lakes are in canyons and the roads are rough and winding.I would hate to think what would have happened if I didn`t do that to get the boat fully seated up on the trailer....But I have the correct winch handle now.I have found that I drive the boat all the way up on the trailer except the last few inches then winch it up...
