    Shoot thru depth finders

My 98 2200V does not have a depth finder. I don't want a skimmer. Can I just get a lowrance shoot through transducer, epoxy it to the bottom and be done with it?

The reason I ask is that I read in the instruction manual that it needs to be a solid floor or else I need to drill a hole through the first layer and foam and then place it agains the final lay of fiberglass. Needless to say, I am not too keen in putting a 1.5" hole halfway through the bottom of the boat.

Soooo, is the bottom of my boat solid fiberglass or is there some sort of foam sandwiching going on?

    Thanks

I have a 2002 20i and had the same issue. I bought a Hummingbird HDR 610 and it works great. It actually fit perfectly into a blank gauge hole I had, so Install was a snap. As you have indicated the transducer epoxies on the bottom of the hull. Because I have a direct drive I was able to mount it right beside the center drain hole. My install took less then a hour.

I did basically the same thing, just different models and different products. I mounted mine just aft of the tranny and fore of the shaft. Works great. Pretty easy job that is a must have. The bonus was that it slid right in to the clock spot in my gauge cluster, right above an empty switch. 2 beer job at worst. It's been in there for...ever.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I did the Faria one...they have two style transducers now. I have the transom mount one which I epoxied it to inside of the hull like Nickypoo. The other nicer one has a two piece setup. You epoxy the outer ring to the position and placement (helps account for the curvature of the hull). Then fill it with a fluid and screw the transducer on. I've heard the later works better.

Mine works 95% of the time, but sometimes throws bogus numbers.

I have an '07 20i with the shoot-thru and it works fine for avoiding shallow water. Not much good for fish-finding. LOL. (I dont let fish in my boat... or poles.. or hooks.. or Nascar fans)
So this monkey walks into a bar...

Thanks all. Epoxied it in place last week by the center drain plug and it works great. It's nice to actually know how deep the water is. It wasn't a big deal when we lived in washington and skied the same, clear lake every time. Now in Louisiana the water is far more murky and things change on the river
