    Broken my friends boat!!! ARGGHH

Hi all, this is nothing to do with a Tige, but I know you chaps have lots of experience and I would appreciate some help.

I was asked by a friend to take some of their guests out for a "tour" in their Glastron MX255 powered by Volvo Penta 5.7 V8 with Volvo outdrive leg.

So we were happily trundling around very slowly, pulled up to a stop to show them something, accelerated away very gently and BOOOM a terrible noise like a a bag of spanners in a washing machine, total power loss. Having managed to make everyone safe and get a tow in (in 26mph winds not easy!) I have found 2-3 inches of oil in the bilge and strangely enough what looks like much way too much oil on the dipstick as well as it leaves a mark virtually to the top of the stick.

So I figure the engine has given up in a big way and possibly blown a piston, but cannot see any obvious sign of this, can anyone help on what might have happened here?

I know the moral of the story is twofold, one, don't help out and two, don't ever drive anything else but a tige, but you know how it is?

    Cheers, Mark

Something went T.U. in the motor, that's for sure... Not much help here - good luck though.
    Waiting for another good one!

My guess is that the engine block had a freeze crack in it which allowed water to mix with the oil which reduced the lubrication capacity of the oil. That caused the engine to seize and also why there appears to be excess "oil". Is the oil milky looking? Bummer

Sounds like you threw a rod through the block or pan. Would explain the horrible noise, oil and results. Good luck with it.

I've seen and heard that happen on a few old International Harvester's before... makes sense.

Happened this year on my brother in laws mastercraft, but then consider the source. Rod through the block first time out this year.

thanks everyone, she is being towed back to home port tomorrow and then lifted and stripped, will let you all know what the out come is, but I can be pretty sure it wont be a happy story.
