Would love to, but the mussel hype has me scared of Mead. So I won't go to Mead anymore unless I have a fixed plan to keep the boat dry for at least 10 days.

Sorry to hijack the thread. Is that all they are asking at lake Powell is if it has been dry for 10 days?

we have been launching at Antelope point launch ramp, which is owned by the indians, so they ask the usual questions, like when was the last time your boat was in the water and what lake did you come from, if your answer was the boat hasnt been in the water for the last 14 days, you were done and could go launch, there wasnt much communication between the indians and the federal government, but supposedly this year they are cooperating with the government, which means all boats will have to be inspected and possibly pressure washed, and if you have ballast tanks, before you go to lake powell, put some bleach or maybe its chlorine in the sacs or tanks, to kill the mussels.

I went twice in June, and my local lake is under probation and considered infested since they found a single mussel last year. None have been found since, so that is good.

The first time I went, they did a very thorough job and inspected the bilge to make sure it was dry, made me turn on the ballast to make sure the tanks were empty, and then they flushed the engine after inspecting the trailer for any dirt or potential hideaways. Then he even poured some hot water into one of the ballast tanks and had me discharge it out to prove that only hot water came back out.

The second time, the guy inspected the hull and said 'OK'.

I think that the caveat to the number of days out of the water is if the boat has been dry that long. I think if you came with a bilge full of 2 week old water, they might still freak out, despite the fact that I don't think they can live in 100 degree bilge water for more than a few days.

Funny thing is that when I return from Powell, Utah considers any lake outside the state to be contaminated, and I have to decontaminate before I can go to my local lakes. SInce part of lake powell is in Arizona, they have a comeapart when they find out that I was last at Powell.

well the whole upper basin of lake mead was glass yesterday, it was the best day of the year for me so far, it was extremely hot, water temp was about 84 degrees, did a lot of sitting in the water and drinking margarita's, i got my new exile XM9', what a difference from the 7's, not very many people out yesterday, at 6pm there was no line at calville to the boat out of the water. talltige, if you want to go, just leave your boat at home and jump on with us, there is always room. Any body interested in going to lake powell we have spots available, price is 600 bucks for the week, which includes everything, you just have to show up, if you bring a boat and put it in the rotation to help with the wakeboarding and skiing and innertubing, we cover the gas in your boat also. trip is from august 16th through the 23rd, there is about 20 of us so far.
