Similar thing happened to us on a private lake 5 years ago. We were in our old faithful mastercraft prostar 205.

The boat that hit us was an aluminum fishing boat and was driving bow up around the lake. There was a person up front who could easily see us but he was turned around talking to the guy in the back of the boat who was driving. Me and my buddy were changing out boarders, I had just taken mine off and he just put his on and were both on the swim platform. At first it looked like they were on the way to talk to us...then when they didn't turn or slow down it seemed like an idiot doing something ridiculous and thinking they could spray us or something. At the last moment we realized they weren't turning and jumped to the side. The fishing boat, with two adults and one probably 10 year old kid in it went up the back of our boat and landed in it.

When I came up, their boat was still in our boat, prop was still spinning as they never dropped throttle, I was PI$$ED. The rubrail of our boat was close to touching the water (these were before the days that we did it on purpose for surfing!). After yelling at them to turn the boat off, they finally did and we pushed the boat off ours.

The skylon pole in the boat probably saved my dad some serious injury as he was the only one out of 5 of us that wasn't able to get out of the way. My buddies board was dented/cracked because the boat actually hit it as he jumped off, that's how close it was to injuring him. They had no insurance but were honest people and paid for the damage of our boat.

We eventually fixed all the damage (the boat didn't sink) and were all ok, the worst thing out of all of it is it has made it completely different from then on for us on the lake. I HATE any kind of crowdedness now on the lake, I've seen some crazy stuff since then and only think "what if..." every time I have a skier fall before I can get back to them.

I have an air horn and talkback mike now, they still don't make me feel comfortable as fast as these things happen.

My #1 thought from all of it...I think liability insurance should be a requirement on boats just like on cars - and if you take a boater's safety course you should get a discount.

Man that's crazy! I'm so glad your ok! I run around the southern pax river down by the base and on sunday we followed a tow boat into the NAS Pax River Rec center towing a brand new 28' chaparral that had broken down and the tow boat driver saw our red 22 Ve' and yelled over to me and said "hey we just pulled the same boat, just like that but green out off the bottom yesterday!" I pretty much brushed it off since I have only seen two tige's down here and about once a week I get someone who comes over and looks under the boat and says "oh there is a prop on that boat figured it was a jet boat never seen anything like it". So I figured he was just seeing a sport boat and saying ours was nearly the same. Small world hope the insurance adjuster is kind!

OP, sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you are ok. I think I may have met you actually at Lake Anna a couple of summers back when there was a pro rider demo on the private side. Can't remember his name off hand. Anyway, good luck with the insurance and keep us updated!!

How did you recover the boat after sinking?

Another post said a Tow Boat recovered it. I'd be curious to see what a "tow boat" looks like and how that works as well though.
                    Waiting for another good one!

I am glad that nobody was seriously injured.

Did you call the Coast Guard? I carry a hand held VHF radio for emergencies like this. Cel phone may not have coverage and I know that the Coast Guard can triangulate very quickly on VHF.

I am sure the response time from St. Mary's was a little long to provide immediate assistance but they would have been able to get the local law enforcement folks to watch the marinas for the other guy.

I would also bet the other guy was BWI.

Is North Atlantic Marine Group the dealer you bought from? I bought mine from Stuart in 2006.

Usually they'll clip large air bags to the sunken vessel, fill the bags with air, and re-float it.
The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

I did not call the coast guard, hardly had any power on my cell. 911 or DNR called the coast guard.

I bought the boat from Gettysburg Marine Center from Blaine. I do know Stuart though.

I bought a couple of these hand held VHF radios (Standard Horizon HX851) for when I ride our Jet Skis in the ocean. I take one with us on our boat too. They have built in GPS and includes a 12-channel GPS receiver allowing the radio to transmit a DSC distress, position report or send calls with your coordinates. Drop the radio in the water at night, no worries as the HX851 floats and case gasket glows-in-the-dark to assist retrieval.

I'm not sure what your VHF is going to do for you! My wife's uncle passed out down your way and it took the EMS 45 minutes to get there (we were in Biscoe) so maybe that was it. We were glad he wasn't having a heart attack or something.

What frequency is designated for marine on VHF?
