thanks exactly what i wanted to see, does the top cross-member fold also? all the pics show knobs and what look like hinges?

No, its a 1 piece tower that hinges at the base shown in the pic.

The top cross remember can be taken off by removing two hex head bolts on each side. If you do not do this you will not gain much clearance when folding the tower down. When you remove the top cross member you will need to be careful with the internal wiring for the tower light. Good luck.
