    Ballast-- AIr Leak?

So evidently my post from last week that I "fixed" my port Ballast by sucking from the end of the hose to prime the pump was incorrect. Can't fill that side.

Worked fine last year, got from Chpthril with jabsco ballast pumps, enzo bags, check valves. At the off season I disconnected bags for storage and boat was stored inside in caves. Hooked up this spring, starbord worked, port doesn't fill. I did notice a wasp exiting the vent and found a little mud maybe like they were building a nest when I took it out on Father's day.

Talked to Chptrill (thanks Mike for answering the phone) and he suggested that may be the culprit, so today I will try to access that check valve and then work backwards towards the pump. I will need a hair dryer or some form of heat to get the hose off the barb on the check valve. Looking for any other "ah-ha" moments anyone else has experienced with this type of issue, or tricks on how to remove the hoses from the check valves.

The good news is my starbord side fills/drains like a champ, and I surf goofy so it's all good for me, just not my son! He's trying to learn darkside and goofy with varying success.

Here is what I have tried and hoping someone has an insight that will magically solve this riddle.

    1. Looked @ impeller in Jabsco ballast puppy pump. It's fine, yellow, still flexy, all splines, no burn marks.

    2. Tried backing in reverse fast with pump on to prime it, thought it worked briefly, but that fix didn't stay.

    3. Hooked up the hoses from the non filling side to the known good pump, still wouldn't fill.

    4. When I pour water down the host past the pump toward the bags, it comes out of the vent.

    5. Ran pump with the fill side hose on and the post side hose off but no water comes out of the pump.

    6. Taped over the vent hole to see if that fixed the leak, but it didn't.

I have access to a hose and compressed air--would trying to blow out the system with either water or air help or hurt?

Open for any other ideas or suggestions.

    FIXED!

Duh, 2 simple things I found:

a place where the hose was joined was unhooked, that ,ade it semi-sorta fill, anemic, and could drain, again anemically.

Next I started back @ pump, bought 2 new green Nitrile? Replacement impellers, replaced my original yello impeller, fired it up and it works.

Lesson: start simple-just because the impeller looked ok doesn't mean it is.

Glad you fixed. Sounds like you had a definite air leak that prevented the pump from priming and a suspect impeller.

          Pics of fixs...

          Pic of the fix:
          1. The disconnected hose/bridge/connector in the port storage area that was causing the air leak.

          2. Pic of the new green nitrile impeller I installed. I bought 2 impellers at a marina that sells Mastercraft's--they use Jabsco pumps and had the replacement impellers in stock.
