    Suggestions for cooler on Z1

Anybody have suggestions for what to do with the under seat cooler on a 2010 Z1? I like the idea of the cooler but since it is not insulated the ice doesn't last long in the TX heat.

I use mine as a place to keep all the empty cans...
    Waiting for another good one!

I used to keep rags and ropes in it. Then I cut it out so the Custom Surf Sac will fill completely. I am happy I cut it out.

I found the best way to use for the familly is to fill a cooler at home and use ice packs instead of ice and transfer all over into the boat cooler. At the end of the day transfer all back to the moble cooler.

I guess that I am weird because I actually use it for drinks and ice. Yes, the ice melts in the summer heat. But I keep the plug in the bottom, and the cold water stays in there. It therefore has a large thermal mass that takes a long time to warm completely. By the end of the day, the ice may be all melted, but the remaining drinks are still reasonably cold.

It would be nice if it were insulated, but it works OK.

I will use mine for drinks on weekday runs when I go out around 4pm and plan on getting off the water after only an hour or so. Besides, on weekdays I try not to drink so much that I need my ice chest.

Dingle, what does that plug look like? Mine didn't come with a plug.

It's a little rubber stopper with a large washer and "t" handle screw thing. You stuff it in and turn the screw, that swells the stopper and plugs the hole.

We use the cooler for crushable food, like bags of chips. We also use it to store a little soft side cooler that holds sandwiches.

That said, I hate the cooler and will probably cut it out to expand the space my starboard surf sack can fill.

you guys sure the coolers arent insulated? I know the cooler on my 02 is insulated, I took it out last night.

It doesnt keep ice all day long but it keeps it long enough! even when most of the ice is gone the drinks stay cold for quiet a while.

If your gonna buy a new cooler, I have to recommend one of the coleman "Xtreme" series. Those coolers are insanely efficient, in 110 degree heat here in AZ it kept ice for over 24hrs. Pretty impressive!

I used to have a really nice soft cooler until someone put bottles in it and I took it for a haul in my sandrail. All the bottles flopped around and the caps cut the liner inside and now it just gets water logged...
